7th edition is here. Now that is has been out for a while it is time for us to combine our knowledge and share what we have learned.
This thread is for everything we know about Chaos Space Marines. If you know something about the strategies that Chaos Space Marine players use, or units to watch out for, or how the meta is developing with Chaos Space Marines, or popular ally choices, or units you’ve had success with, or anything else that will help fellow nid players do well against Chaos Space Marines then we’d love for you to share it here.
This is for serious discussion about Chaos Space Marine armies only. As such, flaming will not be tolerated, if you’re going to debate then use facts and don’t break down into make calling or other such nonsense. Also, this isn’t the place for army list reviews; please take those to the appropriate board. And as always, the moderators reserve the right to delete any off topic replies or inappropriate responses.

Someone at my LGS has CSM with a focus on nurgle and khorne. I'm not sure what to expect, so anyone have any advice on what to bring or not bring?

The big things to watch out for are Spawn (S5/T5, possibly T6 if they're Nurgle, very fast, random number of Attacks, but usually lots), Flying Nurgle Daemon Princes (Shrouded, so they can Jink for 2+ Cover, and they often don't have any Shooting Attacks. You'll often see one with The Black Mace, which can cause Instant Death, among other abilities), a Khorne JuggerLord (Also really fast and tough. Usually rolls with some Spawn. Ridiculous number of S6 AP2 I5 Attacks.), and MaulerFiends (again with the ridiculously fast. They're pretty much CC Dreads that can actually make it into Combat).

First off, I'm not a very experienced player, I play Tyranids since the 6th edition codex came out. I've only played against my brother (Orks) and a friend (Chaos space marines: world eaters, Khorne). I struggle a lot with synapse being removed very quickly, chaos has more range than nids and because I don't have many options on that part (I have 1 flyrant, 3 warriors and a zoanthrope). An important unit to keep synapse safe is the venomthrope, cover saves are all the tyranids have. The hardest thing for me is that I allways have to deal with a lot of armoured vehicles (land raider, rhino, fiend, defiler..)and good armor saves (terminators 2+ space marines 3+).. I'm in serious need of AP. If I feel the need to destroy everything that chaos brings offcourse. Zoanthropes and flyrant, I think, are a must to bring agains Khorne, World eaters have no psykers, so a minimal amount of deny the witch. Warp lance can take out the vehicles (IF you're Lucky..)so bring lot's of zoanthropes to increase your chances. Hive guard with impaler cannons, I brought 2 of them to a game once and they got rid of a helbrute in one shooting fase (strength 8 ap4 homing, ignores cover is pretty good) also they can take a haywire weapon in stead (shockcannon)I'm going to try out that one against the orks next time Monstrous creatures like carnifexes are awesome in CC against armoured vehicles, if you get them across the table. Tyrannocyte helps, but I've learned not to take unnessecary risks so I would use deathspitters so that they don't accidentaly hit the MC. I prefer Carnifexes with 2 twin linked devourers to get the maximum amount of damage out of them. Armoured vehicles are one thing, but a good amount of enemy infantry is an other. Especially when playing objectives. Hive crone to take on the Heldrake with tentaclids. I'm going to try the exocrine with S7 AP2 large blast as well, looks good on paper. Cheers.
