Hey all,
this is the ultimate competition, the greatest challenge in tyranid fandom.
I was thinking we should have an 'ultimate hobbiest comp'.
We shall tackle this in steps;
1st step: invent a new unit, it can be completely anything. Write a 'small' piece of fluff for your new creation. (Helps decide 'how will this beast preform on the battle feild?'
2nd step: sketch, paint, draw your creation. Any art form, just get your new idea visual (this will help with the next step)
3rd step: gather resources and convert your creation, use any medium, make a physical model of the creature
4th step: paint your creation, make em' beautiful
5th step: create a scene/diorama thing, just a nice picture of your new model.
6th step: You can't put all this effort in and not use your miniature in a game, make some stats and rules that you would deem reasonable.
You can do any unit of any species, heck you can make a new army if you really want. You don't need to do the steps in this order, but I do advise doing the drawing before the conversion. And writing rules and stats can probably go anywhere, I just thought that doing those at the end is useful las you can gain inspiration from the model. Each step is inspired by the other steps and once you get started it will just snowball form there. So take a second, flick through some old codexes and get inspired!
This competition is definitely going to take some time but in the end you will discover new sides of the hobby, find new skills and if you go the whole way will feel very proud. It may seem a daunting task but in these steeps it will turn out easier than first thought. Don't worry if you are currently unskilled in any of these areas you will pick it up and learn. If you really can't do a step just skip it, but you no at least try.
When all participants are finished we'll vote for the winners, I think we should have two category's; the entire project and 4 or more of the steps.
Post your progress here and at the end gather up all your bits and post them as one for ease of viewing.
What are you waiting for?
Get Started!
And of course have a bucket lode of fun.
