So with all the new big models coming out from GW, and even ranges like Warmachine having large numbers of bigger models the problem I'v found is cases. Most cases are great for small skirmish armies with maybe one or two big things; but once you start having more and more big models and also larger armies, or simply want to be able to carry more than one variation of your army then problems start to mount up.
So I'm wondering what you guys have used and found works for larger storage and transport of armies.
Case wise I know GW did a limited run of oversized cases during the Apoc period, but have not re-issued them and instead only do their regular and larger sizes.
Many of the other pack makers on the market seem to focus on two concepts - either smaller carry-cases or the slot/magnetic trays. The latter are certainly ideal for if you've got a car, but if you've got to travel anywhere with any distance they become a bit more combersome; whilst the cases are clearly suffering from the same problem of space - ideal for a full Firestorm Armada army; but no good for a large Legion or Tyranid force.
Battlefoam seem to make the largest cases, however they've (from what I've seen) a very boxy approach to design; simple and neat but very boxy.
Myself I've been trying to decide on something that can hold my Legion force for Hordes. However with things like Lylyth on a sleigh and hte huge Throne of Everblight that quickly eats up a good 6 inches of foam - add to that another 3.5 for heavy warbeasts and suddenly those packs that hold 12 inches have more than half eaten up before you've even got to cavalry, warriors and warlocks.
Their P.A.C.K. Air design uk.battlefoam.com/products/%28Air%29-P.A.C.K.-Air-Custom-Load-Out.html has caught my eye though; offering whilst not more depth, but more size with two groups of foam inside. Of course its basically a box on wheels and whilst they make great claims about kevlar layers I'm unsure if I'll get shot at that many times in the UK About the only bonus I can see of it over many typical wheel-box luggage designs is that the bars for the extendable arm are on the outside not the inside of the case (most others I see are the other way around so a few inches inside the case is eaten up with those bars - not ideal in the last for laying foam over the top and packing in miniatures).
So what are your methods? And if you've got them show some photos - I'm sure it would help over hive members to hear and see how you transport your large swarms or other armies to and from the gaming centres.
