Halo: Thoughts on the possible return of the Arbiter?

I am personaly really hoping the arbiter makes a comeback in the next halo game as I have always loved his character adn thought he added a cool element to the game (the elites in genreal are just badass in halo 3). His calm and all-knowing demeanor, and his being a little more chatty, makes a nice off-set to John S117's strong, silent personality and the fact he knows little of what is actually going on until he meets spark, and later the librarian. So, anybody think he'll be coming back?

Halo elites are partly my inspiration for my tyranid warriors. I imagine them moving and fighting in a similar way, they both use a diverse range of weapons and the introduction of the prime showed they both have different ranks/classes. I like to imagine small units of warriors as kill teams, doing the same sorts of jobs space marines were made for

I know some disliked them but I loved the Arbiter missions in Halo 2. He had a cool story

I agree, the Arbite ris great. Then again, Keith David can really bring a character to life, so it's no surpise. And I too like to think of them as the equivalent to Warriors, with Grunts and Jackals being the Gaunts. All in all I am pretty interested in seeing how the human-sangheili alliance holds up, now that war has resurfaced. I know that the elites in Halo 4 belong to a splinter group of what used to be the Covenant, but surely this must put some tension on the alliance in any case.

Also, I really hope the Didact isn't dead. He brought an interesting element to the story (that otherwise was pretty meh in some ways). Also, amazing voice. John has really needed that Darth Vader-like antagonist who is very much like himself, yet completely different at the same time. And his death was a bit goofy I think.

Me replaying MGS2: Substance + this thread made me remember how big game developers once had balls to twist the expectations of players and catch them off guard...

Haha, well Kojima certainly is a unique case in this aspect. But I agree, the major developers and franchises have very much set their formula in stone in a lot of ways. Still, I have a weakness for those series that I've been following since the beginning, no matter how derailed or uninspired they may actually be. I suppose that can be said about Warhammer in some regards as well. Still, if I understand your post correctly, to the credit of 343 Industries, they did kill off a certain female AI companion in Halo 4. Then again, nothing ever stays dead in sci-fi.

Darth-Vader like? I suppose so, but doesn't he look alot more like Darth Malak? Anyway, come to think of it a duel to the death between the Arbiter and Jul M'dama would be really cool to see, maybe he almost dies and then master chief busts througha a window or something and stabs M'dama in the eye with his combat knife, who proceed sto vanish into some dark corridor in a sort of hooror cinematic and pop up in your face only to be slain by the sudden appearacne of a knight under the librarian's control... lol maybe ioverthought it...

With Darth Vader I ment in terms of character, not so much aestethic. And the comparison wasn't really good to begin with. What I ment was a character whose entire civilization greatly depended on him to do the right thing, not unlike John himself. The Didact is the last of his kind, just as John is the last SPARTAN of the original program. They were both frozen/put in suspended animation, then brought back to save the ones they care for, only by the time the Didact awoke the Forerunner race was no more and he himself had gone bonkers meanwhile. Similarly the Librarian and Cortana both proved important counter-weights to the personas of the Didact and John. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I really liked the character and felt he was one of the few truly worthwhile additions in Halo 4. Wasn't crazy about the Promethean aestethic either. Or the fact that they call them Promoethean, eh.

But yeah, I'd like the two Elites to be pitted against each other. Not so much in battle as in discussion. Mdama needs a good whopping at this point. Halsey too.

Absolutely right man. It would be interesting to see the arbiter or the shipmaster yelling at Mdama (and kinda funny) but Halsey just needs to die...
