Something about russians from another point of view

Watch some stand up today, so there are some jokes about russians, and I wanted to ask you - is this real perception for russians there?)

Hmm, I think that greatly depends not just from one country/culture to another, but also the age of the people you ask. My parents would without doubt associate Russia with the USSR, the Cold War and, in particularly ignorant moments, Stalin and so forth. I think the comedian's phrase "scariest white men" is spot on, when it comes to jokingly make stereotypes about russians. It is my hope, and firm belief, that few would actually adhere to this stereotype when challenged about it. Russia, with its harsh climate and somewhat troubled past (as I, a non-russian have come to learn of it) does come off as a bit hostile, but also very patriotic and soliditary in its own admirable way. But surely, associating russians with brawny henchmen with an excessive use of vodka is no more accurate than thinking danes are redhaired vikings who like to get drunk and beat our wives. Actually, the last bit might not be completely off.

Anyway, this all is coming from a terribly ignorant male from Denmark. I'm an avid reader of Dostojevskij and some of the anarchist philosophers like Bakunin and Kropotkin. Tchaikovsky is also one of my favorite composers. So personally speaking, Russia is one of the few countries that really appeal to me in more than just one way.

Pretty sure it's just a comedian using a stereotype (albeit in a mildly amusing way) for some laughs.

I could go on a diatribe about holding mirrors up to society, but I think I'll save it...
