Confusion on coming in from reserve and malediction/blessing

Hello Hive. The interaction between rules for reserve and casting blessings/maledictions has me a bit lost. Can zoanthropes deep striking in with a spore pod use blessings the turn they arrive? What about an outflanking tervigon?

No. The FAQ allows players to decide whether to cast Blessings and Maledictions before or after Reserves arrive, but it still does not override the prohibition on using them on the Turn that the Psyker arrives from Reserves, since that prohibition is not timing-based, but simply stated.

The point of the FAQ is that you can have a Unit show up from Reserves, and then have a Psyker who was already on the Board cast a Blessing on them. Or choose to do Psychic Powers first, if you had, say, Scyer's Gaze or Grand Communion and wanted to use one of those to affect your Reserves Rolls.

WestRider has it. Blessings and Maledictions must be used before the caster moves. Arriving from reserves counts as movement, so once they've been placed, they've moved and are past the opportunity to cast.

As for your question, that is an easy answer. Units can't use maledictions/blessings the turn they come in from reserves. Timing isn't the issue, there is just a straight up rule disallowing it.


As for a separate unit casting a blessing on a unit that has just arrived... I think I am changing my opinion on that. (Or rather, others arguments seem to be making more sense)
From the way I read the rules, you can *roll* for reserves before M/B's, or you can M/B before rolling for reserves; but all of that must happen before the units *arrive* from reserves.

If someone could convince me otherwise, I would be cool with that.

coredump: That's my interpretation too. I think many have house ruled them to be before the psyker himself moves, but it should be before any movement at all. So the movement phase breaks down to:

1. Roll for reserves
2. Cast Maledictions/Blessings
3. Compulsory Movement/Rally/IB checks
4. Start Moving models

I believe 1-3 happen simultaneously, so you can choose the order.

1 and 2 are simultaneous and really are player choice I believe. I put Compulsory and IB third because it could be affected by powers like Embolden or Dominion or some such; e.g. termagants 14" from a Tervigon are running away or would have to test for IB, but dominion would put them into synapse, thus allowing them to act normally.

Actually, now that I think about it, Syanpse creatures arriving from reserve can't affect whether or not you have to test for IB, and beginning of turn powers happen simultaneously with reserves, so shouldn't IB happen before either, then compulsory movement happen after them?
