Looking to the past for the future?

I was on BoLS, they had an article for SM, about looking into the past to see what future minis will come out.

So that got me thinking. Could this hold for Tyranids? They mentioned about no rules, no mini. So
keeping that in mind, what is old for Tyranids, say RT or 2nd edition, that could make a come back
for Nids in 6th edition?

I remember reading somewhere about the Catachan Devil. I could maybe see that. Also I would love
if somehow Zoats made a comeback. Yes it would be rectonned, but I always like the Zoats minis.
Since I don't know anything in 2nd edition, what could I be missing and/or not know about that
is old pre 4th edition Tyranids, that is not in the current codex.

Most of what I can see would be from Epic 40k and the like.

There's a rumor about us possibly getting a downscaled, reinterpreted Dominatrix. I just finished my kitbash of one (over on the conversions board) , and I'm a little excited to see what GW could do with the idea.

And let's also not forget about the slugs. I was never a a fan of their look, but I'd love to see their ideas implemented using the modern Tyranid bioform aesthetic.

Slugs? I don't recall them at all. What are they?

They were our "vehicles" back from second edition. Mostly living artillery and transports, and they took the form of large chitinous slug-like creatures. The aesthetics never aligned with my tastes, but there's no reason they couldn't be redesigned for more modern sensibilities. I think that, now my Dominatrix is done, I may tackle my own version of an Exocrine, Haruspex, or Malefactor.

If you Google any one of the following, you should find the models made by Armorcast and whatnot:

Speaking of redesigns, you will find a few pieces of artwork floating around of a more modern 'niddy Exocrine, and even a few pics of some great conversions using Carnifex bits. Personally, I think it'd be cool to see these creatures come back in a more monstrous way.

Oh no, I sincerely hope that forms such as the dactylas and the exocrine went the way of the squats. I guess the trygon was apart of that family of slug beasts though....

Kind of. The trygon was always more serpentine. The thick, blunt sculpts of large models back then did make it feel sluggy, though.

However, we saw what they did with that creature. Forgeworld made it look deadly, and GW just refined it further.
