^ Oh man I can't even believe this hasn't been said already.

There is nothing more hated in my book. Even the hygiene thing is second to cheating.

I've seen so many people try to cheat against me, noobies that came to the local location. It was mind boggling to watch.

How in the world people can feel good about cheating to win is a riddle within a conundrum to me.

One thing on noobies, there is one person who I don't like who uses other people's inexpirience to win. Like they've played 3 games, of course I I'm gonna tell them they forgot they can still shoot their doomsday ark, stop being a prat. No, no need to get cranky at me, just keep playing.

Ha I had the best game against one of these guys.

It was my first time at this club thing and I stood around talking for an hour but the entire time this guy in his mid twenties kept looking at me. I won't lie it was a bit creepy since I was there alone but he ended up coming over and asked if I wanted a game. I said yes but told him I haven't played in a while but he just smiled. We got everything out and he seemed pretty cocky that he was gonna win but by turn 3 he was raging. My dark lances had blown all his transports to bits and then I wiped his men out with splinter fire. I was having a pretty good time as people where talking to me and such but he ended up packing up after turn 4 and just left. Afterwards this guy came across and gave me a pat on the back and told me that the guy liked to beat newbies and wouldn't play anyone else and seeing the tables get turned on him like that was pretty funny.

So overall it ended up being a good night even thought I felt a bit bad for the guy.

But on the subject of cheating it does annoy me about people get really worked up over mistakes. I stopped playing 40k for quite a while because I had something like 5 different game systems going and when I came back to 6th ed I was pretty wet behind the ears. But there where people that would end up on the verge of shouting because I didn't know power weapons where ap 3 now or something like that. I mean calm down guys I'm only here to mess around after all <_<

I like being amongst my old friends again, there's like 3 players I consistently like playing against in main parts of Sydney. Many of them are just dull.

AP on cc weapons confuses me. Which reminds me. Why does 40k now have burning and knock down effects? I mean does anything even use them? I swear GW has just gone and ripped rules out of other smaller skirmish games and put them in 40k. I don't even think they would work in big games anyway.

I don't find ap in combat that bad. The variance in 40k close combat weapons is such that I see no reason why this would not be reflected in the rules as ranged weapons had enjoyed. Why did a chainaxe have the same piercing power as a Shas'la's fist? It isn't that confusing, especially if you don't mix squads which, as with ranged weapons, is a generally, tactically bad idea.

Knock down I'm sure plays a part in Dark Angel's Maces of absolution, Soul flame has so far been a signature rule of several ranged options in both Chaos codecies. Also, knock down and soul flame have a part to play in telekinetic and pyromantic psychic disciplines. However, I do agree that some of the more fiddly rules can get missed in larger engagements. I remember when my swarmlord has both iron arm and warp time. So much to role and remember!

One more thing i hate is the smell of paints,it's not that i hate how it stinks,i loved how it smelled,keyword:loved.

my smelling has gone completely rubbish lately,to the point where i nearly have to dip my nose in a pot of badab black to smell it,this completley ruins all sense of pleasure while painting for me

Old One Eye... if you have put the model together you understand. I don't think they could have made a worse model if they tried. All the pinning / greenstuff makes you go mad.

I also hate my dice. I swear that 2s, 3s, and 4s do not exist on my dice. I either roll ridiculously well, or lose 5 terminators to 7 shots from bolt pistols (grumble grumble).

I'm pretty sure the 2nd Ed Lictor was the actual worst. The legs joined at contact points so small it was impossible to pin, and had to support the whole weight of the ridiculously imbalanced model.

Well, this thread is old, but I thought I'd still mention my pet peeves.

1) Assembling a new model, only to realize it's going to be hell to paint some areas of it.

2) Painting a model SO WELL, you know you won't be able to top it for a long time... and it's not a model for your main army, or for 40k at all...

3) When you try hard to paint a big model nice, but it looks only as good or worse than your basic troops

4) When GW switched their colours and tried asserting they were the same... they aren't.

5) Realizing you may never fully paint your whole army, and if you do... it could be cruddy or illegal when the next codices and rules come around...

6) GW not having a model for the unit/character you want to play

7) GW charging extra money to get Boneswords and Lashwhips

8) Having almost all your favorite models be ones that are considered awful, bad, or just workable

9) Being in an area where all the gamers are either veterans or screaming children. I have no one I can grow my army with, and no one discovering the hobby with me

10) The 50-95% of gamers that are new, will buy 1-3 2,500point armies, paint 10 of them, game everyday, act arrogant and obnoxious... and then quit in a year or less.

11) The people that speed through assembling and painting like it's the worst thing ever, so they can field their "unbeatable" (and sometimes legitimately cheesy) list and table everyone. If you hate modeling and painting, you're in the wrong hobby.

12) Getting teased a little for not rushing through my army like everyone else.

13) The fact that you can't get victory points for having a well painted army when your opponents isn't even painted... or worse, it's slapped together without care.

14) That so much of the game has become more about rolling dice than carefully planned positioning, meaning winning can be due to dice more than talent.

15) The socially awful people.

16) All the meta talk about what army is op, which one sucks, and how you can break the rules, blah blah blah. Why does no one talk about fluff and new models, fun combos and painting? I'm tired of hearing that nids suck and Crons and IG are OP.

17) Smack talk. I know it's part of the game, but I believe my army will win as much as I believe the sun won't rise tomorrow. You say you'll obliterate me? I'm going to say yes, you are.

18) Transporting an army... cases are expensive. If you go custom, you need to either have all the models, or plan to buy them, which is too much fore thought for me... plus transit and big cases? Not a good mix.

19) distracting gawkers... those kids that think your game board is their playground too.

20) The people that have no respect for your books and will crack the spine or slam it down.

21) People that play with my dice, dice bag, books, tape, or anything... without permission

22) Non gamers that don't respect your models as you show them how to play... I put 10 hours into each of those! Don't grab a handful of them and push them across the bumpy table! Don't just yawn when the HQ you're borrowing from me FALLS TO THE GROUND!

23) GW Prices.

24) Losing too quickly, losing badly at a roll, losing because of a misread rule, etc.

25) People that have rolling rituals... I'm sorry, but can you not spit, blow, lick or whisper to your die? The number of crazy, and beardy things with dice I've seen makes me wish the game used fixed percents or had a third person or machine to roll the dice for us instead. I even hate "lucky die" because I've yet to meet someone who doesn't go on about it in some way... cheering, whimpering, shouting, dancing... just ROLL. Whether superstition or cheating, I hate it. The only time I was okay with funky rolling was when a friend would launch his die and shout "Kamehameha", but he only did it 3 times... not 30 in a game.

26) Wanting to change your army's colour scheme when you've already put hundreds of hours in...

27) Having so many pet peeves

I think I covered a lot of things there... is there anything left to cover?

Oh, and I might add... as big a list as this is... some of what I listed don't bother me *that* much, I just thought making a super long list would be funny.

....but seriously... dice rolling rituals... I HATE THEM.

I will admit their not all bad and they are new to the game, I was even one at some point, but most of them just burn through my patience like no tomorrow. Learn not to pick up my models! No the fluff doesn't make for actual rules DX *Breaks down crying*

Oh and also people that look down at other game systems. Just because I'm playing MTG and not Warmachine doesn't mean you have the permission to call me names >_>

Well, other than the playground comment... all of those ones you picked happened with 14-25 year olds. For some reason, 25 year olds like to disrespect things that aren't there's. As for models and new people... they've all been old enough to drink and I've TOLD them to be delicate, though I shouldn't have to, they're artists and we went through a hellish painting class together... some people, huh?

I've actually only met one obnoxious 12 or under child, he thought cheating was cool and funny and that the world revolved around him, the other 5-10 I've met have been AWESOME. They don't understand the rules or the difference between rules and fluff, but they get excited about 40k and play FOR FUN. It's amusing to watch them play, their unjaded love for the game rubs off on me. I'd rather hang out with all 10 of them than all the people my age who play.

There are a couple of local leagues that give league points per game for having your army painted. They want to encourage and reward that aspect of the hobby.

I agree with most of the points made in this thread. The only one I really have to add is:

White paint. No matter how many coats I try, I cannot get a smooth, even coat of white paint with a brush. Primer? Sure. But if there's anything aside from white primer beneath that layer, I swear I'll see shades of it peek out between my uneven application of white...
