Up to 1500 points now, have a few questions

So the wife and I have been playing about a month, and just had our first 1500 point battle (Im at 1501). Eldrad is really consistently being an issue and her Pathfinders and Wraithguard are a consistent MC killer. I won this last game by 1 wound in Purge the Alien, my flyrant took down Eldrad just barely.

Im switching out my Tyrannofex for a Swarmlord until she gets more units, and I have Tyrant Guard on the way. I think shes going to wind up with an Avatar and more Wraithguard, any advice on dealing with these, what is the standard practice other than load up on Hive Guard?

Also, now that I have three Zoanthrope, is there any reason to try for anything other than taking Psychic Shriek? I one shotted a Wraithlord in this game that way.

So in that last image, you can see my Trygon Prime, and to the left of the Fire Prism there are Rangers in that building. My Prime assaulted and destroyed the Fire Prism, and she argued that she could claim a 4+ cover save on the Pathfinders even though they were on the second level of that ruin. My Trygon could clearly see over the Fire Prism even on its floating base, and with the Pathfinder rules it was either no cover or 2+ cover save after their bonuses. Which one of us was correct? We ended up rolling off for it.

All things with high toughness hate being attacked by units that have poison. Their toughness means nothing when you wound on a 4+. We have plenty of options for that. Heck gargoyles are really annoying in that they auto wound on a 6 to hit and have poison... make your opponenet roll until they fail their save. The elite slot is full of options and non are standard. The most common are Ystealers, Hive Guard, Doom, and Zoanthropes. All combinations are nice. Never allow your big bugs to get within range of the wraithguard, it only ever ends poorly for your big bugs.

If there is intervening terrain or models the pathfinders will get a bonus to their save. It is true line of sight. So you can target the unit, or specifically target the models not in cover, but then you can only kill those not in cover and the pathfinders will go to ground and still receive a nice save... so they are just generally a super pain in the butt to shoot.

The models and table look good.

The Fire Prism does not provide a cover save.

"Intervening Models" - Page 18

Similarly, if a model fires through the gaps between models in an intervening unit, the target is in cover, even if it is completely visible to the firer. Note that this does not apply if the shots go over the unit rather than through it.

Emphasis mine.

Note that:
a) After the vehicle is wrecked, it is considered terrain for the purposes of providing a cover save. So the intervening models rule isn't really relevant anyway.
b) The Pathfinders can still get a cover save from the ruin they are in, if they are obscured by it. We can't tell from the photograph.

and all the pathfinders need to be is obscured 25% to claim the cover save from the ruins. that's pretty hard not to get on a standard infantry model.

Well, the Trygon's eye level is higher than the second* level of a ruin, so they won't be getting a cover save from the floor. So if the Trygon is shooting from the interior side of the wall, then none of them will get a cover save.

* Or first, depending on what floor numbering convention you use.

We were under the impression a wrecked vehicle = 4+ cover save, hence the quarrel.

My 20 gargoyles with poison and adrenal glands are working out amazingly well against eldar, what with the re rolls for poison because of adrenal glands. I am seriously considering getting 10 more for a unit of 30.

We are into turn 2 of a game with my Swarmlord and have found that close combat with Wraithlords gets kind of tricky. He's already down to three wounds from the pathfinders and close combat. : / I see why he needs his tyrant guard.

I dont have pictures other than that as far as color scheme goes, Squire. Are you referring to mine or my wifes? She has an easter egg army.

Wrecked Vehicles are 5+ Cover, see Pg. 74. They still use True Line of Sight to provide Cover, too, they're not Area Terrain or anything.

It's kind of hard to tell where everything is from these pics, but if the Trygon is on the "inside" of that Ruin, then the Pathfinders are going to be in the open. If it's on the "outside", at least a couple of them are probably getting Cover, assuming that's them in the same situation in the 1st and 6th pics as well.
