The floating mass of organic matter of a thousands worlds seemed motionless in the endless void of nothingness. Its carapace shell glistened in the twilight, the stars reflecting off its dark colored surface, like a mirror floating in space.
Writhering ropes of sinew and flesh searched the wreckage of a Imperial Cruiser, tearing its hull apart in a frantic fray with relentless hunger, picking at its bones like vultures ripping every last piece of flesh from a rotting corpse. Every last piece of the space vessel that could be recycled and consumed was intravenously absorbed into the stomach of the Hive Ship to be broken down into a liquid bio mass to be reused as new living organisms.
Inside the hive ship was like looking inside the fleshly torn chest cavity of a space marine who had been infested with rippers, bursting from his chest sending his insides in all directions. Enormous organs throbbed with each pulse from a central organ fueling the massive entity. Its life blood the very matter broken down into the glowing green ooz taken from each world it sucked dry.
Glowing veins and arteries spread across the insides of its ribbed body to billions of egg sacks of various sizes, the creatures inside ticked and twitched with life as they awaited to be birthed into a mycetic spore to be hurled down to the surface of the next planet to be devoured by the numberless host of Tyranids.
Millions of small creatures moved around the inside of the ship, in and out of vents and tunnels, moving bio mass from one location to another, moving eggs and storing them into the billions of Drop pods along the belly of the beast, like a hive of ants or wasps, mindless and driven by a common goal. A long wide tunnel of bone and sinew sunk deep in to the heart of the organism, its floors and walls infested with the mindless workers. It opened into a wide room, its flood pilled with eggs and larva, squirming and munching on the biomass pooled around the room. In the center of the room, suspended in space by strands of flesh like a spider web, was the Queen, the brood mother, birthing new and unique organisms to suit her needs.
New creatures were evolved from the information gathered by genetically designed infiltrators to invade the minds of their prey, literally probing their minds with fleshy fingers that entered into any opening in their foe.
The brood Mother, the Queen of the hive used this information to engineer new breeds, to adapt to its foes continually, always adapting and overcoming to its environment. The Hive mind was always evolving, always changing, never staying the same and always staying one step ahead of its prey.
