2k somthing a little different

Doing a 2k tourney next week and want to try something a little new and different from the typical Nid lists. The tourney will be completely base book friendly with the exception of no double force org.

HQ - dakka flyrant

Elites
3 Hive guard - x2

Troops
3 warriors 1 with barbed strangler - x3

Fast Attack
Harpy - x3

Heavy Support
3 Biovore - x3

Fortification
Fortress of Redemption (Nid'ed up) with the Krakstrom missile

So the warriors will be inside the building using fire points for the barbed stranglers the rest of the army will be on the fortress for the 3 up cover saves. Going for a imp guard feel of insane amount of blast templates though I have yet to use it im pretty confident this list will at least throw people off a bit and at least my warriors wont get insta killed. Anyways just bought the fortress today and am in the process of using an insane amount of Nid bits to make it Niddy

Definitely different. At first I missed the bit at the end of each line saying you had more than one of that squad and thought "that is a tiny list for 2k." Still pretty small with only 28 models plus the fortification. Is your tournament allowing nids to use emplaced weapons?

Regardless, I'm interested to hear how this turns out - I always root for anti-norm lists.

Very interesting list,

However i do not think that tyranids can actually use emplaced weapons, as i kow they cannot take a bastion or the quad gun for the defence line as thier weapons are actually apart of themselves.

I can't manual fire them but pretty sure the weapons will still Automated Fire on their own. It is BS2 but I'm cool with it as I'm mostly looking for the missile silo anyway as far as weapons go. I really want to change this building into a "Norn Queen" type of Tyranid. I know Norn Queens are attached to the bio ships but as we Nids are always evolving I though it could be some sort of never before seen relative of the Norn Queen that is like a living factory to my Nids. Reguardless that conversion will be a ton of work and I won't have time to complete it before the tourny so I think for now I will just do some light conversion work to make it look like it got hit by a Mycetic Spore or somthing so it was more of a taken over by tyranids looks.

Where does it say that we cant take/use emplaced weapons? Cause although i've heard this many times i cant find this rule any where.

That sounds like a very fun list! I could imagine some armies getting blown to pieces by all of those large blasts, and it looks as if you have enough hive guard and hive tyrant shooting to deal with transports. It's pretty light on troops though. If you drop one of the harpies you could put down two units of 16 termagants instead. I suppose you were intending to use no small guys, so that isn't an option

While it looks like a very fun list, you'll have difficulties with winning games.
3x3 Warriors as your only Troops is very light in 2K, and if I were your opponent I would just kill 2 of those (not the one in the fortress.
Those two units are as hard to kill as 2 Marine scout squads. Not very difficult.

I would drop a few biovores and a harpy for some more troops.
If you want to stick with only warriors, I'd just double up on the same 3 man broods.

I just posted a very similar list a couple of days ago, in that I'm going for a super-elite tyranid army. The consensus here in internet land seems to be that such an army (no gaunts, no tervi, etc.) is more or less destined to fail. Of course it all really depends on your local game store meta environment, weather s8+ high ap weapons are common, etc.

Still, even as a practitioner of the super elite tyranid army style I'm seeing one crippling problem with this list: Your warriors are so very few in number. My list keeps three squads like yours, but I beef their number up to twenty seven in addition to podding them, guaranteeing that they'll be able to at least shoot on their arrival. With 9 scoring models, you're unlikely to have any left relatively early in the game. What's more, against most armies they may find themselves dead before they got to do much of anything.

Removing One Hive Guard, 1 harpy and 1 biovore frees up 255 points. 240 points buys you 8 warriors, and you just went from 9 troops to 17, giving yourself a bit more of a chance.
