So we have an apocalypse game coming up and I'm bringing 4500-5000 points. My two allies will be bringing ~8000 and ~4000 points. We will be facing against imperium armies including 4-5 players and it should be a 34000 total point game!
My opponents will mostly be grey knights and imperial guard, so parking lot and terminators galore with psyfle dreads pouring lots of S8 my way.
However, I need a little help building for 4.5 or 5k. The current list is sitting at 4807 so I either need to shave a few hundred points or bulk up with a few useless models or upgrades so how about some opinions pretty please with rippers on top!
Current List:
HQ
Swarmlord
2 Tyrant Guard
Flyrant - 2x Devourers, Old Adversary
Tyranid Prime - Deathspitter, Pair o Swords, Regen
Elite
9x Hive Guard (3 groups of 3)
Doom of Malan'tai - Mycetic Spore
Deathleaper
30x Ymgarl Genestealers (3 groups of 10)
Troops
7x Genestealer - TS
-Broodlord - Implant Attack
9x Tyranid Warriors - Deathspitters, Barbed Strangler
3x Tervigons - Stinger Salvo, TS, AG, CC, Catalyst, Onslaught
30x Termagants (3 groups of 10)
Apocalypse
Hierophant Bio-Titan
Current Total 4822
Gameplay strats and notes
Lots of names characters, swarmlord, doom, ymgarls, and deathleaper for funsies and a Hierophant to be scary.
Swarmlord considering dropping a tyrant guard so it has his increased majority toughness if I get iron arm, also did not give guard swords or whips as I don't expect them to survive the walk across the board... then again, maybe all the fire will go into my hierophant and they'll make it. Opinions or giving buffs, making it a 3 strong crew, or dropping one?
Flyrant is to take out pesky fliers mostly
Tyranid Prime will go with the warriors increasing their WS, BS, and hopefully taking krak missiles tossed their way. I really have no idea whether to make the warriors melee oriented or shooty. I was leaning towards shooty as I don't expect them to reach combat but with all the big juicy targets maybe the warriors will be ignored. Anyone who runs warriors want to weigh in? Maybe I should make them expensive and give them dual swords, TS, and deathspitters all at once!
Tervigons I could bulk up by giving regen to inflate points, but I expect my opponent to focus fire so it would just be a point sink unless I get unlucky and get endurance instead of iron arm. In that case endurance+regen ends up being a nice combo. On a side note, why does everyone take stinger over cluster? Cluster has a more reliable overwatch and AP 4 on stinger doesn't seem worth it.
Genestealers... ymgarls will be fun but with the genestealer brood... just taking up points honestly. Broodlord could eat a hero in a challenge but I'm not sure he'll make it honestly. Maybe fielding a 4th Ymgarl squad of 8 would be preferable or dropping them for points. Opinions? If I do run them... maybe I should outflank them? Sure they can't charge but they won't be shot up first few turns.
Deathleaper will be the first time I ever use this unit. Don't know what to do with him exactly. Either going to have him appear behind an imperial guard tank or go hunting heavy weapon teams. Anything I need to know other than stick him in cover for his 2+ cover save?
Hierophant will be the first time actually running one. Anything to expect? I assume I just run him towards the biggest target, shooting his (please do not swear) BS 3 shots along the way and just choose to stomp if I get a horde around me
Possible Additions to bulk points
9x Ripper Swarms which i have no clue what to do other than tunnel them shoot with spinefists then assume they'll die
3x Lictor squad... they just don't seem useful to me. Pop up shoot the back of a tank with flesh hooks, hope for a rending, then die.
Another 4x Warriors, this opens up the option of splitting my warriors into 3 groups of 5 and running the Eye of the Hive formation which gives pretty much my entire army preferred enemy for an extra 150 points.
So, sorry for the long post but... opinions?
