I got a deal - now I need an army

Hope this is the right board for this.

I've been debating between Orkz and Tyranids for a couple months for some variety. Right now I'm a Dark Angels player and play a mixed Deathwing/Ravenwing force. (also have chaos, skaven, vc and elves for fantasy).

A person near by was getting out of the hobby (boo-hiss) and was selling off his models pretty cheap, so I decided to throw out the ork armies i'd been looking at and grab them while the grabbin' was good.

In the end I ended up with

Foot tyrant w/ bone sword, lashwhip and a heavy weapon (can't figure them all out yet)

3x warriors w/ rending claws and special weapons
3x warriors w/ bone swords (I had purchased and converted these because he said he didn't have any, then saw the 3 in the box)

2x Tyrant Hive Guard (the melee ones, not the elite shooting ones)

2x Zoanthropes (Bought these since they were recommended for tank busting)

35x Termagrants (which makes me think i should get a Tervigon)
13x Genestealers
25x Hormugaunts
3x ripper swarms
handful of spore mines

It worked out to roughly 1100 points of stuff.

I don't have anything in the fast or heavy slots and no fliers. I'd be tempted to get another tyrant to give him wings and double twin-linked devourers (i think it is).


What do you guys recommend picking up to build up on this list?

That's a pretty good start. As you mentioned, you might want to get a flyrant (or convert the current one to one). The obvious other answers are Tervigons and possibly Hive guard (you have tyrant guard, which aren't really the same as the hive guard, but easily confused by name).

Honestly, as long as you can play proxies with someone - I might try a few games where you use what you have as other things you're thinking of so you get a feel for what units you like and what units you don't. The more or less cookie cutter list is some variation of

Flyrant (or two)
Doom
Hive Guard
Tervigon and accompanying minimum termagant squad (x2 or maybe even 3)

That said, you don't have to go solely with that build, which is why I say you proxy some things to try out and see if you prefer a shooty nid list or a CC list, a swarm list or a Nid'zilla list, and so on.

And think about mysetic spores...they add a lot of mobility and disruptive ability to your army. They're great for getting the Doom where he'll do the most damage, zoanthropes near backfield armor, devil-fexes and devil-gants for general mayhem behind enemy lines...

I would recommend reading over the tactica in my signature to get an idea of what direction you want to start building out your list.

But yeah, the units that everyone wants unless they feel like rocking the boat are Flying tyrants and Tervigons.
