Hi fellow Hivers,
I've an upcoming tournament that discourages spam lists and encourages variety in all its glorious forms. As such I've tried to produce a list that is very aggressive but with diversity as a theme. I've come up with the following list that seems to fit the bill:
HQ: Flyrant with 2x T/L Devourers & Hive Commander. 285
El1: Doom of Malantai & Mycetic Spore. 130
El2: Venomthrope. 55
Tr1: Tervigon with Catalyst and Cluster Spines. 175
Tr2: Tervigon with Catalyst and Cluster Spines. 175
Tr3: 15 Termagants with Devourers & Mycetic Spore. 190
Tr4: 10 Termagants. 50
F1: 20 Gargoyles with TS & AG. 160
Hvy1: Carnifex with T/L Devourers & Mycetic Spore. 230
Hvy2: Trygon & AG: 210
Hvy3: 2 Biovores. 90
Total: 1750pts.
The basic plan is to keep the Flyrant, Doom, Devilgaunts, Carnifex & Trygon in reserve. The remaining units will hide as much as possible for a turn before most of the reserves appear on turn 2 with Hive Commander helping units appear on a 2+. If there isn't much terrain then the gargoyles will screen the rest of the army with the Venomthrope providing a 5+ cover save and one of the tervigons giving FNP to the gargoyles too, making them pretty resilient. Night fight on turn 1 with help enormously, improving the cover save to possibly 3+! The tervigons will spawn scoring units and the Biovores pummel fragile scoring or threatening units.
If everything appear on Turn 2 they can cause mayhem! Doom has been awesome for me in the past, in one game taking out 3 BA devastator squads and smashing an assault squad in a rhino, stopping them claiming an objective - I did make 8 saves to krak missiles in the process so was pretty lucky. The Trygon Prime is great against most things, if it survives Turn 2 shooting, which it should do with target saturation.
The Carnifex is there to provide close range Dakka to transports, flyers or elite units, before mauling opponents on the following turn. The Devilgaunts will appear and fire 45 strength 4 shots at any juicy target. The Flyrant does what he/she/it does best and takes down flyers or target any ground-based threat. Lets not forget the humble Mycetic Spore too, that can claim Linebreaker and sneakily take out vehicles with their ripper tentacles!
Have I got things covered or have I missed something fundamental? Your views would be appreciated.
