I haven't posted here for aaaaaaages. (Left the hobby, i'll be back when we get a 6th codex) But I saw we now had a fluff section ;D so here we are:
------------------------------
Captain Regalus observed his men. They were huddled in groups and talking quietly in one of the warehouses they had somehow managed to keep the Tyranids from overrunning. He overheard a conversation between a small group of guardsmen:
"They don't reproduce by intercourse man... They're made"
"yeah but-"
"Do they look like they have time for sex?"
"Well how else do they reproduce then?"
"They're made, up in their ships they've got creatures that give birth to them whole"
"Don't believe that sh** man, you're telling me those huge spiky titan ones are just fall out of a fetus? No way man, They're too big."
"Well there's no other way"
"I'm telling you man they've got alien brothels up there up in their ships where they just have massive alien orgies"
Another guardsmen from a nearby group joined in.
"Alien brothels? You've gone crazy man. I heard they're grown in pools or something"
Yet another guardsmen joined in.
"Don't listen to soldier Marvin too much, he's just thirsty and missing the brothels back home."
The guardsmen proceeded to tease soldier Marvin and a debate soon broke out. Captain Regalus smiled grimly. He had to admire them. These men have fought off wave after wave of Tyranids and they were debating how the things reproduce.
"How the hell do they perform intercourse Marvin? Do you seen any genitals on the things?'
"Man those things have so many appendages and holes that I'm sure somethings gotta fit in somewhere."
Captain Regulus smiled and joined in the conversation.
"You're talking sh** again Soldier Marvin."
"Yeah but think about it..."
The conversation continued until the guardsmen had fallen asleep.
It was the middle of the night. The warehouse door creaked open and the severed and bloody body of the guardsman on watch duty fell to the ground. Three creatures slipped silently into the warehouse, observing the sleeping soldiers. One of the creatures walked over to the closest guardsmen and leant over his sleeping frame, inserting its mouth appendages into his mouth, nose, and ears. The creature convulsed before retracting its appendages and moving on to a second guardsmen, as it leant over him three bullets went through its head. The entire warehouse of guardsmen woke up instantly and picked up their guns as Captain Regalus reloaded his Boltgun and began firing at at the second creature, bullets glancing off its carapace. With uncanny speed the creature rushed at the closest guardsman, picked him up by the head and threw him at the Captain, then impaled another two guardsmen before being brought down by a volley of Lasgun fire. As this was happening, the third creature tore the head off the corpse of its first fellow Tyranid before escaping out the door. Captain Regalus pushed the body of the dead guardsman off of him and stood up. He looked at the body of his soldier;
"killed by my own f*cking bullets damn it."
He yelled out angrily;
"Turn the damn light on!"
The searchlight in the corner flooded the warehouse with light and the Captain surveyed the scene. The door was flung open, the body of the soldier on watch lying severed and bloody close by. Two soldiers were lying dead; impaled through the chest, and the bodies of two Tyranids dead in the warehouse, one missing its head. All the guardsmen were staring at him expectantly. He ignored them and walked straight to the guardsman he saw the Tyranid leaning over, grabbing his face and inspecting it. Bloodshot eyes. Blue and enlarged neck veins. The Captain shot him through the head. He pointed to the Tyranid bodies;
"I saw one of them leaning over him and pushing its tentacles into his mouth. I assume he was infected, and we can't take any chances."
The guardsmen stared at him; They were waiting for orders.
"I want 6 men on watch, and they can take the bodies outside with them. The rest of you; you're sleeping with Tyranids for the rest of the night."
Morning came. Captain Regalus woke his men.
"Men, we're most likely going to be hit with a full Tyranid force today. The attack last night was most likely a way for them to determine our numbers."
The guardsmen did not speak.
"What do we have left?"
A soldier stood up.
"Sir, we have two Leman Russ -an Eradicator and a Punisher-, a single Sentinel, and a few heavy weapons in our adjacent warehouse."
The Captain sighed. It wasn't much, but it was pretty good considering the circumstances they were in.
"Alright men, prepare our vehicles and weapons, but leave them in the warehouse for the time being. Two men on watch at all times, swap every two hours."
The men did as he said.
It was mid afternoon and the day was passing slowly. Captain Regalus stood up and walked out of the warehouse, going up to the soldiers on watch;
"Go inside men, I'll keep watch for the next two hours."
He sat down and looked around. The sky was red, spotted with the shadows of distant flying Tyranids. The landscape was a twisted mess of rock and alien growths; groups of huge plated towers pointing into the air, and large bulges of writhing tentacles dotted the terrain. He wondered why the Tyranids hadn't finished them off yet. They were a small group, and even though there had been three previous waves of aliens, all three seemed small compared to what he knew the Tyranids could send down. Perhaps the majority of their numbers were distracted by a larger Imperial force somewhere else on the planet, or perhaps their ships were being attacked by the Imperium out in space. Either way, it seems they are doomed to die out here. If the Imperial forces out in space really wanted to, they could track the Tyranid movements and see that they were attacking these warehouses, and send down somebody to save them or at least drop off supplies. Captain Regulus threw his Bolt Pistol against the ground in anger.
"F*ck!"
He picked it up the pistol and observed it for a moment, before pressing it against his forehead.
"F*ck! What the f*ck am doing!?
He threw the Bolt Pistol far away, before picking up his Boltgun and shooting firing at the pistol. He stood up and started pacing back and forth.
"I'm going f*cking mad out here. Sh**!"
He continued pacing and muttering to himself before being interrupted by movement to his right. One of the dead guardsmen bodies was convulsing; it was the soldier he had killed. The Captain watched in shock as the body convulsed violently and began sprouting spines. His back bent in an unnatural angle and a row of spines erupted out of his spine, his nails grew into claws.
Regalus took a few steps back as the body stood up, alien growths still ripping it apart from the inside. The thing staggered a few steps towards him and fell over, alien bone replacing the skin on its legs. The bodies feet became claws and it tried again to walk; this time it was successful and it started walking purposely towards him, but the Captain was frozen in place staring at was happening to its head. The human head shook violently while carapace erupted from its skull, and its jaw tore off as its tongue swelled and grew sacs on the underside. Its eyes went from dead and lifeless to alien and frenzied. The now almost completely alien human body launched itself at him, screaming with a mix of alien and human sounds. The Captain was too slow in reaching for his Boltgun and the creature landed on top of him, screaming in his face and clawing at his torso. He wrestled with the creature and punched it solidly in the jaw, splitting his hand open and angering it even more. He heard four heavy gunshots and the creature collapsed on top of him, killed by heavy bolter fire from Guardsmen working in the adjacent warehouse. A soldier ran over and helped him up;
"Thank you soldier."
He staggered through the warehouse door and sat down with the rest of his men before passing out.
"Sir, Sir!"
A soldier was shaking him awake. It was the next morning.
"What is it soldier?"
"Tyranids! Tyranids Sir! We can see them coming!"
The Captain stood straight up.
"Get the Russ tanks out of the warehouse, set them up away from each other with our weapons teams and the sentinel between them. All of the men if front of them."
He walked outside of the warehouse and saw the swarm. All land based Tyranids - no flying ones. The tanks were mobilizing and heavy weapons were being loaded.
"Alright men! Listen here! We've done this before. We've taken out three waves of these things, we can take out a fourth. We are the hammer of the Emporer! We WILL be succ-"
His speech was cut off as a flying craft screamed across the sky, dropping three large boxes in front of their force. The Captain muttered to himself;
"Well I'll be damned, a supply drop. They were tracking us this whole time!"
The Guardsmen pulled open the boxes to find ammo, weapons, and food. A single Guardsman ran up to the Captain and handed him a small laser pointer;
"Sir, this was in there."
The captain looked at it for a moment and realised it was a missile guide. They may just pull through a fourth wave. A soldier called out;
"Look! Behind the Tyranids!
Large objects were dropping onto the ground behind the Tyranids main force, they impacted the ground and exploded into dozens of winged Tyranids, which joined the main swarm. At the same time Captain Regalus noticed the craft that dropped the supplies bank hard and begin flying towards the Tyranid swarm, launching 8 missiles in quick succession before peeling off and flying back towards the small force of Guardsmen, passing directly over them and circling back around for a second run. As it approached the Tyranid sward a huge flying creature slammed into it from seemingly out of nowhere, crippling the craft and causing it to slam into the ground and immediately be overrun by Tyranids.
"Men! This is it!"
He looked at his force. He looked at the Tyranids.
"Emperor, save us."
The Tyranids were almost upon them.
"Fire Eradicator!"
The ground shook as the Eradicator cannon began firing shells into the Tyranid swarm, sending the aliens at the front line flying.
"Fire Punisher!"
The Punisher cannon whirred up, started screaming and began spitting bullets ferociously, tearing more front line Tyranids into pieces. The rest of the Guardsmen began shooting, the squads firing strategically in order to take out the closest Tyranids and stop them from reaching their lines. The Tyranids were now so close that Captain Regalus could pick out individual organisms. He saw small chittering creatures flanked by huge hulking monsters, massive mother beasts spawning more and more little ones. The Tyranids were upon them. The Tyranid line slammed against the Imperial line and tore the men to pieces, limb from limb. A huge bulky creature picked up their sentinel and tore it in half with huge claws, before hunching over and ramming their Eradicator tank. The ground shook and the Eradicator fired a shell directly into the creature at point blank range and killing it instantly. The ground shook again. The last thing Captain Regalus saw was the Leman Russ Punisher flying towards him as a huge snake like creature erupted from the ground beneath it, sending it flying into the air.
