The terrain composed of 5 hills, 3 forest and 2 ruined buildings.
I rolled and got first turn.
I rolled for psychic powers for the Swarmlord only and got iron arm, leech essence, endurance, and warp speed. Warlord trait was the personal trait that gave the warlord feel no pain while near an objective. Forgot what his was.
My deployment was right on the edge of my deployment zone with my tervigon in the middle and his prime escort. To the left were the zoanthropes, then a squad of hormagants. To the right were the skyslashers with the hormagants behind them then the swarmlord and last, the hive guard.
His deployment was such that I could never reach his transports with the hive guard on first turn, same with the zoanthropes not being able to hit the landraider first turn and had them all mostly on the side with the zoanthropes. He started out with everything in the vehicles and infiltrated his scouts on the right side in some forest.
Top of Turn 1
I decided not to spawn gaunts yet with the tervigon but I rolled 3 for iron arm with the swarmlord. I gave endurance to the Tervigon and the skyslasher swarms. Everything moved up and I killed one scout with the Hive guard. Tried to run the zoanthropes behind a building to keep out of line of sight but I rolled a 1 on the run.
Bottom of Turn 1
He moved his transports up and unloaded his marines out of the transports. With 2 lascannon shots from the predator and landraider instapopped both my zoanthropes with failed saves. One tactical squad fires at my skyslashers and manages to hit with snapfire from the missile launcher and instapops one but the bolters did nothing. Scouts shot at the skyslahsers and I made 4 FnP saves. The hormagants on the left suffered 5 casualties from the other tac squad.
Top of Turn 2
Used onslaught on hive guard so they can shoot and run but again, I rolled a 1 and could not reach any vehicles but a landraider, so I shot it and did nothing. Swarmlord moves towards the landraider. Swarmlord gives Skyslashers furious charge then charges the scouts and kill 3. Since he was boxed in pretty good there was very little places to drop the pods but they all hit when landing and managed to snipe a flame thrower from one tac squad and kill 2 from the other tac squad. Had some really bad rolls for shooting on my end. Tervigon grabs the relic and only spawned 5 gaunts and got doubles.
Bottom of Turn 2
He shoots and kills both spores with lascannons. The left tac squad kills 8 devilgaunts. 5 more Hgants go down from storm bolters on the left. The tac squad on the right hops in the transport and runs even further away from the hive guard and avoids confrontation with the persuing Hgants from the right flank. He also fires a couple more high str weapons that managed to fail to wound, rolling 1s. Lucky me.
Top of Turn 3
Prime breaks off the Tervigon and heads towards the swarmlord. Tervigon runs away with relic and gives himself FnP. Skyslahsers mop up the scouts and the 10 devilgants move into the ruined bulding in the middle of the table but there was nothing to shoot at sadly. The 2 remaining devilgaunts in the other squad snipes the flamer from the tac squad on the left and charges soaking up overwatch while the 5 Hgants charge with furious charge given to them from the swarmy. 5 more tac marines go down and the first devilgaunt squad is finished up in CC. Swarmy charges the land raider and gets 1 glance and 1 pen. Pen does nothing thanks to machine spirit. Swarmy is now S9 T9 from iron arm and has endurance.
Bottom of Turn 3
3 lascannon shots, 1 missile launcher, and a squad of terminators (disembarked the landraider and charged swarmy) did absolutely nothing to the swarmlord. “Wounding on 4s with lascannon fire sucks. Hitting and wounding on 5s with terminators really sucks.” Swarmy only manages to kill the terminator sergeant. The sergeant from the tac squad finishes the Hgants but is the only guy left in the squad. The 9 remaining tac marines in the rhino move to support the left flank for some unknown reason but do not get out.
Top of Turn 4
I roll for iron arm and get a 3 again boosting swarmys S and T to 9. My opponent concedes and we shake hands.
Really thought I was gonna lose this one but in every game I play there is always at least one unit that does phenomenal and ends up winning me the game. The swarmlord was just impossible to take down and I was hunting down his troops and the Tervigon was just too far away to deal with. He did real well though killing off at least 35 percent of my army in 2 turns before I could start doing any damage and we have been playing each other for a long time and he really knows my tactics. He almost completely countered my deployment perfectly but deployment isn’t everything.
The game ended 4 to 1. He had first blood and I had the relic plus the line breaker.
Sorry for the low quality picture but it was the best that I could do with the camera on my phone. Looks quite cinematic though, wish I took more pictures.
