So a buddy and I played an apocalypse match this weekend and I just wanted to share a quick overview. It was my Nid force from Hive fleet Gojira Vs a very mech heavy Necron force. We both had 4k points, a small table edge and rolled purge the alien (which still makes me cringe even when it helps me). I was lucky enough to have two assets due to a previous Apocalypse match with a Eye of the Hive formation.
As I was mulling over a couple of army builds and reading through the assets I found the careful planning asset and immediately said out loud YMGARL!!. lol
I then built my army from that in the attempt to wipe him the first turn. when I told him this and only fielded two tyrants, a prime and a naked squad of ten gaunts he laughed. I did too. But on my turn I then on my turn I brought in two full squads of Zoanthropes in spores and eight squads of eight ymgarl. It was awesome and I ended up with something like seven victory points.
On his turn he killed a couple of ymgarl squads, under used his wraiths squads and ignored my zoanthrope. ya
On the second turn I dropped in doom and five sets of naked gaunt. I also walked 19 warrior and another ten gaunts from his board edge using the Flank March asset (this blocked his table edge from his reserves). The zoanthropes finished off two monoliths. The ymgarl took out the rest of his bikes and smaller vehicles with a little help from doom. And the gaunts, well the gaunts must have loaded all their fleshborers with rape because they caused fare too much damage dropping about half his wraiths.
On his turn he lost some reserves, but four scythes came in( each one taking out a spore). He used his last monolith to try to punch a whole in my warriors dropping something like seven between guns and that damn door and his Wraiths decided a couple sets gaunts need to die.
On turn three, my ymgarl met with the wraith and sent them packing. The zoan failed to hit the monolith and my warriors with a set of gaunts filled in his back line. upon him rolling and losing the rest of his reserves he conceded.
There's one for the hive mind.
