Unbeatable 1500 Point List.....83% of the time

With only one kill point mission and the rest being objective based, am I wrong in thinking that below is the most competitive list we could field?

Keep in mind that competitive doesn't mean you are going to wipe the other army off the board. It means win the game/mission. With 180 scoring models on the board, objectives should be a breeze. For Purge The Alien, there are 12 kill points out there, but will be difficult to kill in large squads. The Biovores might be able to give you a First Blood secondary objective by sniping a weak/small unit of infantry. The downside, moving all of those models.

There's quite a few bodies on the table but only 4 models that have to die to make things go south. That being said you could position them quite inconveniently to keep them safe. Once they get through synapse termagants become impediments to yourself. Though, you could certainly intimidate an opponent with the daunting task of having to wound that many things.

Well any opponent will see 180 units in this list. Any Good opponent will see four units, well actually any person who has played Tyranids.

You shoot the primes and the Zoans and thats the end of that. Last I checked you can fit some strong heavies in a list of 1500 as well. Nice try, I mean you could pull that off with really good positioning but still its just too risky.

Try switch out the termagaunt brood for a tervi then you will have synapse and more gaunts. As well as a dev gaunt brood for some just in case, objective holding.

Try your list out and see how it goes if you havnt already. Swapping 1-2 termagant broods for a tervigon aint a bad idea, a basic one costs 10points more and it use to spawn something like 10-30 termagants, you would get your points back mostly plus getting additional synapse. Your list really have the tyranid feal atleast ^^ The Primes could join some unit and use them as shield "look out sir". If you need more synapse, maybe some cheap warriors?

Good luck against blender dreds, iron clads, flyer spam, other nids (spamming terrify to break half the army).

It's workable but not unbeatable. Not really even competitive as to win tournaments you need to win big, not just survive.

tervigon is defn a top contender for best troop choice in the game. Especially biomancy spamming. That can either give you enfeeble which is awesome,or protection from ID+it wont die+other special rules, or +D3 str and t for a full turn.

With iron arm running around a T7 multiwound monster makes an excellent objective holder. And you'd spawn those gaunts you wanted as well(23 avg spawned per game with a tervigon). - i think in your shoes I'd do 2 tervi's and 2 squads of gaunts. That also gives you options in spawning kill points or not in purge.

And you won't deal too well with fliers imo- winged Ht with double brainleech devs is probably our best shot against those. Dunno what the tourney scene is like where you are but i've seen a bit of flier spam. ignoring works to a degree, but that isn't preferable if you can at least thin out some of the fliers imo.

What I would personally do w your list is remove the prime's, remove 1-2 hive guard, 2-4 squads of gaunts as needed- and then put in a devil-flyrant, and two tervi's with psychic power upgrades. That's just more my playstyle- also placing that many models down on the table during deployment is just a pain imo lol- easier to do it in small batches w the tervi.

I do like deadlink's suggestion. Initially it is 100 less gants, but if you assume that each will spawn around 20 gants, that is only 60 less. This gives you more bang for your buck as 2 Tervs are 133% more in points than those 60 gants. I think I will have to give this a try.

The warriors are just gonna walk upwards and try to gt as close as possible and attack everything .. High wounded guys like a Trygon can easily be killed by the group of warriors in first assault with the prime. Doing 3D6 Ld test on each attack that wounded the Trygon (Power weapons ..) then it would get instant killed.
The gants in pod will come and shoot infantry down, 30 shots
The Tervigon will provide more Termagants .. unless it gets corked up ...
The stealers will infiltrate and get feel no pain from the Tervigon (maybe)!
The hhiveguards will take down vehicles, but if they got a landraider, then get the tervigon on it. Depends on the size of the table of course

That's one compatible 1k point list ... I think

^^^ I love warriors...and they are monsters in CC with any infantry and most MCs , but just "walking them up" is like saying "Heavy weapons, start to make your points back here!"

I'm still highly skeptical of this list being "the most competitive" when the metagame is overrun with flyers from what I can tell/what I've gotten the chance to see/play against. Maybe you'll be fine ignoring them, lord knows thats a TON of wounds you put on the table- albeit fragile ones.

Sure you can capture objectives fairly easily- but a smart opponent will look where your scoring units are spread most thin but still proximal to an objective and try to FF that squad to dust imo(which is why I advocated the tervi's for resilience)- having potential to capture objectives doesn't mean you'll get a chance(thanks biorivera for pointing out the obvious). And you can argue you won't let that happen- but see my next concern:

You also only have 4 synapse creatures(unless you've already included the tervi change in which case disregard this)- and while I don't expect the warriors to die outright(not a pun on ID) if your opponent does manage to hack apart your synapse or its spread too thin(which it may be just because of how many models you put down) those gaunts are going to do very little.

Maybe I'm just more terrified of fliers than most people(afterall their size and intimidation is an element most tyranids should be familiar with in concept- cough cough flyrant). I just have a hard time imagining a "most competitive" list without a flyrant for AA support at that point level(1500+) just because of our lack of army AA.

Also heavy bolter spam or noise marine salvo spam lists could really put a hurting on this list imo(and chaos is big still from what I can tell just cause they're "new"). I could see your list as having the "most competitive" title if you aren't looking at the game from within the context of the metagame and how other highly played armies are doing- because frankly you're right that list should do at least fairly well at capturing objectives or at least contesting which is such a huge part of the game now.

Also I forget who said it, but surviving to get the objectives is not enough for tourneys. The brackets are determined by how much you won by(aka people who won all their games might not go into top running because its how badly you beat your enemy). Surviving will usually get you a marginal victory(perhaps often)- beating the snot out of your enemy gets you top spot(provided you beat the snot out of them while standing on objectives).
