Tyranid Army List 1200pts

Hey hive,

Deadlink97 here.

So I will be having a 1200 point game to wards the end of the summer holidays ( enough time to paint base and build).

Me and my opponent are not very experienced and this will be our first propper game in 6th edition but still a very competitive one I hope to win .

So he plays Ultramarines and from what he told me ( which I'll choose to believe to a certain degree) is a command Squad and Captain Sicarius in a Vindicator, 2 Tactical squads, a Devestator squad. I'm sure hw ill be bringing his other two vindicators to accompany him as well and I'm fairly sure he will be bringing his land raider if he can smooth over the points.

My first list planned to combat him with lots of MC's. The Vindicator threat was planned to be taken by swamping it with a Prime,warriors and gaunt. And then charging the Trygons after they munch on his tacticals, dev and command squad.

Hive Tyrant (1) - Twin-Linked Devourer - Brainleech Worms, Twin-Linked Devourer - Brainleech Worms, Wings, The Horror, Leech Essence = 260 pts.
Tyranid Prime (1) - Devourer, Scything Talons = 80 pts.

== Elites ==
Zoanthrope Brood (2) = 120 pts.
The Doom Of Malan'tai Brood (130 pts.)
The Doom Of Malan'tai (1) = 90 pts.
Mycetic Spore (1) = 40 pts.

== Troops ==
Tyranid Warrior Brood (3) - Devourer, Pair Of Boneswords = 120 pts.
Termagant Brood (10) - Fleshborer = 50 pts.

== Heavy Support ==
Trygon Prime (1) - Containment Spines, Synapse Creature, Shadow In The Warp = 240 pts.
Trygon (1) - Instinctive Behaviour - Feed = 200 pts.

== Total ==
1200 pts.


The second one is basically the same concept except I will switch the Prime/warriors and gaunts for a safer swamping method know as the Tervigon.

So far we have agreed on playing a Purge the Alien mission. Which is where I fear the Tervigon list might let me down in the form of easy points of gaunts. But at the same time i am wary that the Primw,warriros and gaunts wont just get owned and be a waste as well.

How do you guys think this list would preform against my mates Ultramarines?

The second list will fare much much better.

DOM can rinse the command squad, the Trygons laugh at the vindicators, the zoeys can take psy shriek and demolish devs even hidden in ruins (ignores armour and cover!)

The list with a Prime, what exactly is he doing?? The BS buff is less efficient for warriors than adding another 2 warriors and he doesn't even have a bonesword to hold his own in combat!

^^^ Agreed...second list is more viable. I know the indicator will smear gants...but nothing says you "need" to spawn any until it's taken care of or the tervigon is in CC... The warriors/prime would be a primary target of the vindicator...and they wouldn't stand much of a chance. As for Sicarious and crew...whatever the DoM misses...your flyrants firepower should wreck with volume (don't forget you can assign any 6's to the model of your choice)...

* Oh yeah...and deep strike everything pretty tight to his units...he won't want any vindicator rounds hitting his own units...and spores/dragons just avoid the mishap for landing on troops...just gotta watch those table edges.

you're not allowed to post points values if I'm not mistaken(though its almost certain anyone reading this has the codex, copyright and whatnot). I prefer the 2nd list though. Not a fan of warriors due to survivability, especially in a squad that size.

So... I think it's clear now that the second list will be the best option. But the problem is that tervi does not exist in my army right now. Hopefully I can get the money in time ( I have about 6 weeks).

So game plan is to deepstrike everyting instead of the Tervi and Zoans. walk them up and flood the enemy. The Trygon and Prime will Ds along witht he Flyrant and Doom. So trygon and Flyrant target vindicators then what ever else is left. The doom can go for the command squad and the tervi can do something.

@jabber The primne is just kind helping the warriors I didnt really think that one through. Also psy shriek?? Should I be using the codex powers or the biomancy ones??

@guard True true I will be ds pretty much everything, but I can see now why the first list wopuld get demolished eaisly.

biorivera - I would like to have more warrior but to be honest I just put them in to fill the troops gap and not be totally weak gaunts. Also you can post point but only totals. So in my case I have donw the biomorphs and then the totals in each unit plu whole army total.

Psy shriek from telepathy absolutely shreds infantry, no matter how tough they are. It can even slaughter MCs, even T9 iron armed ones!

If you need reliable anti tank then stick with codex though, for warplances. You can always swap 1 brood member and let the other guy keep his, if you roll up some nice powers with the first zoan such as gate and shriek.

@ Jabberwocky - I think I might split the brood of Zoans up into two. Give one of them Codex powers and roll for the other one. But I'll try to familarise myself with the Biomancy powers and work out which ones are used for different things. Also Warp blast looks like a really good anti marine attack. I should be able to kill up to five marines witht hat attack if the template lands well.

How often do your opponents cluster their guys in base to base? I also find warp blast ineffective when enemies that are clustered usually do so in terrain, getting a cover save anyway.

Shriek is way, way more powerful.
