So, since 'nids can talk about hordes/swarms vs nidzilla armies, I was wondering if it was possible to do so with the Chaos Space Marine Codex... thinking basically the most daemonic, possessed, monstrous list you could come up with... but then I figured after looking at my options that the army would probably be terrible and a huge fail but I wanted to ask around and see if anybody had tried it or thought it might not be a complete waste of time.
So, here is my initial thought (feel free to tear apart, but keep in mind I'm not trying to win a tourney, just making an army that might be entertaining, but if it's a complete waste of time, let me know)...
Anyway -
Daemon Prince, Gift of Mutation - Mark of Slaanesh or Nurgle probably, maybe wings, or maybe just keep 'em cheap and foot slog
Large unit of 20 Cultists - obligatory troop
small unit of CSM, plasma gun, plasma pistol, gift of mutation on champion - obligatory troop; thought about just doing another 20 cultists instead, not sure at this point...
3 Chaos Spawn (mark of Slaanesh or Nurgle most likely) - run at the enemy, try to screen the cultists and daemon prince, or 2nd wave of chargers after the cultists throw themselves at the enemy defenses
3 Chaos Spawn (mark of Slaanesh or Nurgle most likely) - 2nd unit for the same thing, especailly with mark of nurgle have some survivability but lack of armor is sad
2 Mutilators (mark of Slaanesh or Nurgle) - plan to deep strike, try to get at something that their weapons might be able to take out even though there are only 2 of them, they can't charge off deepstrike, and I know everyone hates the models but I feel like I want them to work because their fluff should be so neat...
2 Obliterators (mark of Nurgle? slaanesh mark would be silly but is only 1 pt per model) - my only ranged attack...
Unit of Possessed, 2 Gifts of Mutation, Rhino (really want to give it daemonic possession but then if it eats one guy that is no fun)... again, want to make the most daemonic/possessed army even though I really don't see these guys doing much to most enemy units and they are way overpriced for the random charge range and random bonus that they get in this edition... much like mutilators, I want to love them, but worry I can't...
This is just about 1000 pts (give or take my math, I'm not @ home with the codex)...
I know Possessed and Mutilators are possibly the worst units in the codex, but they fit the theme and I'm kinda looking for a way to utilize them just to see if I can...
The real fun would be bumping this army up to 2000 pts, adding a Forgefiend, Maulerfiend, or Defiler (2 of the 3 anyway), and bumping up the CSM unit, the mutilators, the obliterators, and the possessed to make them more likely to do something, and adding another Daemon Prince (with wings ideally, or giving both DPs wings)...
ideally you'd get a land raider for the possessed to come charging out of (otherwise they are probably going to die long before they get to anything) and I am still torn on how the heck you can get Mutilators into combat with anything that 6-9 WS 4 power weapons attacks are going to win against unless it is the rear armor of a enemy tank or fortification... unless I get a land raider for them, but then the possessed get shot up... so get 2 land raiders I hear you say? yes, but then we are at 2500 pts and your opponent probably has 10 lascannons at that level...
Anyway, I ramble a bit, but just looking for any thoughts as to if it is even possible to make a force out of the stuff in the codex that others are not interested in...
