Just got back from a 1000 Point tourney last night, i'll make the brief as i'm stretched for time, anyway, my army was as follows:-
Dakkaflyrant
2 Tervigons(3 powers)
2x10 gaunts
2 Zoanthropes
2 Hive Guard
Game 1 vs Deathwing
Belial
3 Units of normal Terminators, 1 had a Cyclone Missile, 2 had assault cannons.
Mission, Crusade, Dawn of War.
My Tyrant got the Warlord trait which made him a scoring unit which was nice
Basically what happened, I walked forward and spawned lots of gaunts, he almost killed a Tervigon at shooting. He made literally every 2+ save possible I then got in close combat my Tyrant and Tervigon(with warp speed) ate them all in combat over a few turns. In the end I tabled him ended up winning in 40 minutes with a score of 14-0, shot me straight to #1 position.
Game 2 vs Necrons
1 Lord on a Barge
3 Battlebarges
3 Nightscythes with warrior squads.
Mission, Purge the Alien, Hammer.
Very hard game for me here. I deployed as far forward as possible out of cover e3xcept my gaunts which were in reserve. The Tervigons had Iron arm/Endurance which meant they would be okay for the majority of the game.
Anyway I moved as far forward as possible turn 1 he shot me, killed maybe 1 zoanthrope, I got lucky with the saves. turn 2 I caused penetrating/glancing hits on ALL of his barges but guess what? he passed all of his jink saves ALL of them so no damage to any of the barges. I think one of them the Hive Guard caused 4 saves on 1 barge the Tyrant 5 on anothert(flying behind it) and the ZOanthopes like 2 pens on another. But yeah it wasn't to be).
The proceeding turns was me chasing him around the board and him shooting me to death, in the end I had this Toughness 8 Iron-armed Tervigon kill a barge in the second to last turn and then smash his Warlord in the final turn to get me 4 points but then he killed it in the end.
So I got tabled and lost 4-10, not so bad considering really, I was still in 3rd place at this point however.
Game 3 vs Space Marines(Nom nom nom!)
Mission Big Guns never Tire, Vanguard.
Captain on a bike with hellfire rounds& a powersword
1 Massive unit of bikes with 2 meltaguns? 1 multi-melta and a Sergeant with meltabombs and a powersword.
AC/Las Predator
Tactical squad in a rhino
Tactical squad on foot
Landspeeder with 2 heavy flamers
Thunderfire cannon and a techmarine.
Quite a good army actually. The bikes and my Tervigons got standoffish in the end my flyrant flew upto his Thunderfire cannon who was bombarding my gaunt units at the back, so I enfeebled it and shot it to death with the Flyrant. This lured his bikers out so I then spawned alot of gaunts from teh Tervigons and sent the Tervigons in too and made a mess of the unit basically.
The flyrant flew around killing his predator and tactical squads+techmarine over the game his Landspeeder killed my home objective gaunts but then the Hive Guard despatched it later. In the end by Turn 5 I tabled him.
I won 11-1 I think he maybe got first Blood.
Game 4 vs Orks.
Warboss on bike with a Powerklaw.
Nob bikers with a Painboy.
Sluggas in a Trukk.
20 man shoota unit.
Burnaboyz in a battlewagon.
Lootas.
Nasty army tbh on paper, but in practice I was so confident going into this game.
So yeah I whittled him down a bit at shooting and then things got close my Tervigon and some spawned gaunts made a mess of his shootas. Hive Guard shot down some Nob Bikers, ignoring their cover saves which is nice. Lootas were shot to death by the Tyrant and I think I spawned 6 units of Gaunts and could of spawned more but we didnt have the time to play on.
My Tyrant paroxysmed the bikers rendered them practically useless, however hiw Warboss killed my Tyrant in the last turn he rolled loads of 5's! But yeah I had every objective on the board only my Tyrant died, so even though it was a hard list I had the tools to table him and I would of but we didnt have the time to play on and I had max points already.
So I won that one 14-1.
So in the end I came 2nd out of 15 behind the Necron player that beat me. Some hard fought games but it really does show imo that Tyranids are more than capable of being a top tier army, especially Tervigons they are just sick.
