Rebuilding: Making a proper End Stage List

Hey all!

as you all know by now, I love my fluff and my Rippers. I've realized that, yes I can have a blast with an army of 81 bases of Rippers, but that's only part of the End Stage scenario.

Here's my attempt and a proper end stage list (using IA Apoc 2 2nd ed for the Malanthropes):

2x Malanthrope - 220
Parasite of Mortrex - 160

3x Hive Guard - 150
3x Hive Guard - 150
3x Pyrovores - 135

7x Rippers w/ Spinefists, Toxin Sacs, Tunnel Swarm - 147
7x Rippers w/ Spinefists, Toxin Sacs, Tunnel Swarm - 147
8x Rippers w/ Spinefists, Toxin Sacs, Tunnel Swarm - 168

9x Sky Slashers w/ Spinefists, Toxin Sacs - 216

Total: 1496
Total Wounds: T3 = 93, T4 = 9, T5 = 8, T6 = 12
Total Units: 8
Maximum Allowed in Reserves: 4 (the 3 Ripper broods in reserve)

Parasite is attached to Sky Slashers and provides forward synapse while Malanthropes pull up the rear and keep the Hive Guard in line. Pyrovores charge forward for distraction. Rippers tunnel in where needed.

Thoughts?

It looks fun on the paper, will be time consuming to deploy and move and you have no scoring troops..

I would love to try something like this
Just one serious question: Three HQ? How does Malanthorpe work in the force ORG?

Malanthropes come in a brood of 1-3.

Why would it be time consuming to deploy or move? Normally at 1,500 I've got 66 rippers on the table. This is nothing in comparison.

True, there are no scoring units, but the has a much better chance at tabling and/or denying objectives.

The warlord can potentially score, given the right trait comes up. FA/HS can score in some missions too if you could fit any in but there isn't a lot of fluffy choices.

I think given the options available it's ok.

Is parasite really end stage though? Maybe hunting stragglers...

You're totally right, he isn't, but I just can't afford more Malanthropes right now, I've only got one converted one, and a similar one a friend is gonna build me.

If I had 6 Malanthrotes, they'd be there!

..on that note, it says that:

When choosing your army, you must nominate one model to be your Warlord. It is always the HQ choice character with the highest Leadership. If several characters are tied for highest Leadership, you choose among them which is your Warlord.

If I only had broods of Malanthropes...and they're not characters, or if they are, they're in a group...that means no Warlord?

As ever, Blindmage, you have mt respect for a properly themed army, a rare thing in this modern day of power creep, allies and cheese!

Can I ask how you play your Malanthropes? Not having the book you mentioned, I Googled them, and found some debate over the edition-matching issues?

Are they actually good in a fight, or did you choose them for fluffiness?

How survivable are they? I presume your list doesn't give them much cover, being all ankle height!

The IA Apoc 2 2nd ed book has them updated and in full working order with 6th ed

I love them, the models look great, the rules are good. Being able to take them in a brood of 3 sure in interesting. It makes the units a rock hard thing, and is a very thematic HQ.

I use them for everything, assaults, killing vehicles, taking out other MC's...general badassery

I did not really think before posting. My own list is not any better in that regard. We play nids, moving hordes is normal to us. Tried rippers and the Parasite myself last game, funny things happened
I have nothing to add about the list. Do tell us how it plays, please?

Malanthorpes in IA Apoc II huh?
I need to try them out then, one of my regular opponents likes to bring a vulture with punisher cannons. I believe it's in the same book?
