I have two different army ideas....one i've tried and it failed miserably.
It was 1500 point list that had a majority of the units deep striking. To start the game, I had a unit of 15 gargoyles with AG and TS with a Parasite of mortrex following, and a unit of 12 genestealers.
Everything actually went perfectly on turn 2. I rolled really well and had my unit of 8 ymgarls pop out, my trygon prime deep striked, a unit of 10 gargs deepstriked, and two units of 10 genestealears in mycetic spores both deepstriked. The only thing that didn't come in was a unit of 4 Raveners.
But my opponent was smart and basically walled his army into one corner of the board, so i couldn't deepstrike behind him or inbetween his units, i basically appeared right in front of his face, leaving me to be blasted away on his turn. My ymgarls ended up having to charge into cover, killing my initiative and losing 5 of them before i could even strike.
My trygon did some damage, and so did the parasite of mortrex when he got into combat. But everything else just got annihalated. I was extremely disappointed with my genestealears, i expected so much more. I lost every single model in that game...and i had a lot of them! It made me think deepstriking just isn't that great....you deploy and are helpless for a turn.
I was playing the new chaos space marine codex in that game.
My other army idea was to use a massive swarm of hormagaunts, with some genestealers to back it up, zoanthropes for synapse and shooting support, and maybe a few deepstriking raveners or ymgarls to keep my opponent on his toes.
You've probably noticed I haven't put in a Hive Tyrant. I know he is extremely powerful, but I feel like every Tyranid player uses him and a similar list. I'd like to find a way to go without him and just use a huge swarm of guys.
Any ideas? Thoughts?
