ok here is the last 1k batrep, now with PICTURES. yeah yeah. i think this is the more proper place for batreps anyway so reposting my very messy win that i probably should have lost.
ok tonight's game was my above list vs. my friend dwayne's codex marines. it was a brutal and hilarious game, one of the funnest i've had in a very long time.
dwayne's list was something along the lines of:
chapter master, power axe
X5 tac marines w/ TL HB, sgt has power axe
X6 tac marines w/ TL HB, PF sgt
X6 tac marines w/ TL assault cannon, PF sgt
X5 devastators, X4 HB
X5 devastators, X4 plasma cannons
mission was the relic, deployment was hammer and anvil. dwayne won the roll off, and elected to have me go first.
board:
my powers were: flyrant iron arm, smite. terv 1 enfeeble, endurance, iron arm. terv 2 enfeeble, lifeleech, warpspeed
i made a bad mistake and had some horrid luck, right off the bat. we had lots of terrain, 2 or 3 pieces in every 2X2 section. large ruin in the middle. relic was placed there. i had sort of a large barrier most of the way laterally across the board on my side and deployed my momma bugs in the two gaps, with gants and HG behind. tervs do their buffs, np, and flyrant rolls double 6's on his perils test. bam, one wound right out of the gate. terv w/ warp speed drops 11 and pops an O ring, other momma keeps on dropping babies through the entire game.
birthing babies:
i'm always this happy when i'm about to crush my opponent's balls.
flyrant i deployed aggressively and up close, zooming into maggot range of his HB devastators. i thought i would be able to get enough bugs close to lay both terv's stingers and at least a squad of termagants into them. i was wrong. even with TL shots on the flyrant, i killed one HB guy. i was able to get some termagants to run and grab the relic. HG just out of range of anything, the spot i put them in was not as good as i thought.
dwayne's first turn he kills most of the relic termagants and mauls the center tervigon. puts two wounds on the flyrant.
top of turn two, momma puts out more babies, buffs up to S9/T9, and the flyrant...rolls doube 6's again to die a hideous imploding death that is all my fault. FML, seriously.
yeah, that's right. double sixes again. die in a fire, RNG.
HG blow the first transport open, i send 3 squads of termagants up but only one makes it into range because of overwatch shoosting. momma bug in the middle can't make it, (please do not swear) assault roll. momma bug on the side can't make it because of a move through cover roll of 2 during her movement phase.
dwayne's turn 2, he kills the middle tervigon. she just melts. lost 10 gants from one of my starting squads. the terv on the side is laughing as he pours plasma cannon shots and HB rounds into her, managing 1 wound. his command squad mauls the termagant squad but combat still going on.
note with pic: i am not sure of exact sequence of events. this is what happens when you let someone else take pics and you take no notes. starting to look like didn't make it into combat till turn 3 but it's hard to say now, honestly.
my turn 3, i make more bugs, buff up. i spawned a batch of 11 or so close to the ruin his HB devs were in. they merrily walked right up, shot the hell out of them. HG blow another transport up. chapter master kills the last of the gants he was in combat with, but there are a LOT of gants around him now.
dwayen's turn 3, the two devastator squads pour fire into my tervigon and do...nothing. T7-9 is really difficult to wound. drops orbital bombardment on the tervigon, doing nothing to her and killing 2 gants. he looses one plasma guy to gets hot. he has two squads out of the trucks now and pours rapid fire bolter shots into everything he can. loose some gants but cover, even at 5+, mitigates a lot of it. the 2nd squad moves up an takes the relic.
at the end of turn 3 it really wasn't looking great for me. he had the relic in a power armor squad at full strength in cover, and had first blood and warlord kill. i had lost over half my army by the end of turn 2.
turn 4 though...well. i kind of wrecked face. my HG were out of synapse and failed IB, but he had moved a squad forward to take the relic and had moved them right into their line of sight (which was good, b/c where they were before, the HG could see nothing and under IB feed they have to see something to shoot it). the tervigon buffed up, spawned like...13 more bugs and moved up. last turn's spawn shot the HB devs, mving to assault range. the terv shot up the chapter master's unit, and 4 other units shot them up. the HG shot up the sqaud with the relic, killing 1. then i assaulted, well, like everything. it was really, really ugly. even after overwatch and h aving to move through dangerous terrain/wrecked vehicle debris i still made it into combat with the tervigon and 3 of the 5 squads i sent in. he killed like...6 gribblies and i killed about half of his guys. at this point, only my HG and one squad of termigants are not engaged in combat with something.
his turn 4 there is nothing he can shoot at effectively. he looses another plasma cannon to gets hot! shooting at the one unengaged squad. he kills a couple of gribblies with PA/PF doods, and i kill half of his remaining forces in the combats.
i *think* this is end of turn 4:
my turn 5, HG immobilize and stun the last transport. i finish killing all of his troops units and the HB devs. my unengaged squad grabs the relic. at this point he has 3 devastaors in cover in the back, and an immobilized razorback. we called the game at the end of my turn 5, 4-2 tyranid victory. he got first blood and warlord killer, i got relic + linebreaker.

i know i have made a mistake or two in my account above, because upon recall that last razorback was immobilized in turn3 i am nearly positive, and the HG failed at least two IB tests before rallying in turn 5. i hate not taking pictures as i play....i apologize for the inconsistency with the batrep.
so, after action notes? good showing from dwayne, he didn't really make any mistakes aside from just get buried in a sea of screaming fearless termagants. relic was a funny mission, it's a nice change from the standard 3 back in 5th. if you haven't played it yet, it's essentially murderball.
the end of no reatreat! wounds is a great thing. i do mourn the furious charge nerf though. took a lot of casualties from assaulting through cover w/ no grenades. overwatch is a pain, but so is drowning in a sea of gants. crushingtervifex is an absolute beast. i noticed afterwards i forgot her HoW attack when she moved up to assault the chapter master's squad. i play flyrants too aggressively and they always die stupidly (nearly always my fault).
all in all, a chaotic, fun game, best i've had in a long time.
