Meiotic Spores... Anybody use them????

I'm just looking for feedback on these guys. Forgeworld units are allowed in 40K and Apoc games in my FLGS, so I'm gonna pick some up for Apocalypse games, but with the rules for arrival... are they worth playing in regular games?

The have to arrive via deepstrike
If they scatter onto impassable terrain, they mishap
They have random movement

So what tactics would you use? It's a large blast Str 5 Ap3 blast for 35 points. However, it has to sit on the board for a turn before it acts (unless your opponent just runs into it) and it moves randomly after that.

Has anybody used them and what were your results?

They don't move completely randomly like regular Spores, with Meiotic Spores you choose the direction but the distance is random. They also leave behind Spores. They could be great against MEQ in games >1250. Even if it gets shot off the table before doing anything, that's a turn of firing your units don't receive for 35 points. Then they toss out Spores creating the same situation again, albeit to a lesser degree. I think it's a great 35 points amd 2 could be fun.

^^ that's good to hear, I am excited to try it out. I think they would be a great reactionary move to your opponent moving up and getting out of their boxes to shoot. BAM! Here is a big ole spore in front of you that is dangerous to your marines... shoot at it while my other forces are moving up.

It seems like it would be awesome on turn 3 where most of the times, your opponent is already de-meched by that point for some reason or another.

It would be wise to inform your opponent you get to direct Meiotics, unlike regular Spores, so they undersrand the dangers fully. This will push them farther to take time killing it.

Have they changed the rules on these? My Rulebook (anphelion Project) is way different to what you guys are saying.

Where do I find these new rules?

They're great for keeping people you set up gun lines on their toes. Pop them right next to some devestators and within some tacs holding an objective and watch the decimation*! If there's pesky XV*s behind a Hammerhead, pop them right behind it and nip the annoyance in the bud.It hits those necrons that don't stay dead, with spormines staying for more than a turn or get to those eldar units before they can do too much damage.
They're just very flexible, reliable units.



*Note, is likely to kill far more than just one in 10

I've used them before and love them. Sometimes opponents will get worried and we'll just use them as terrain/objectives but I think they are great models to have.

Casteel, you relly need to put up a thread with pics of your hive. I really like the scheme!

That s kind of stupid that if the spore ia destroyed by enemy fire it does not spawn any spore mines.. As it have reduced their effevtivness by alot..
Any tips or tactics on how to use these meiotic spores?

I was thinking to deepstrike like 6 of them together with the mysetic spores with zoans and doom so that the opponent must halve their shots.
But when reading that they can't spawn when destroyed. .. Mehh

where are you getting this information from? the rule book i have doesnt say that.

I'm headed to my local GamesWorkshop this weekend. I'll set up a table and take pictures with terrain. Get the full effect. Not all my army is painted yet though so... Either way, I'll get some more stuff posted soon.

Revx, IA Apoc 2nd Ed. details that "Detonation" occurs when they are within 2" of an enemy model but does not state that enemy fire causes Detonation. I think it's an accidental ommission as every entry for both Meiotic Spores and Spore Mines except this one book say the Detonate when destroyed by enemy fire, though if someone goest strictly RAW it doesn't provide for it in IA Apoc 2n Ed. I don't see many players questioning it or not being ok with enemy fire causing Detonation though so I wouldn't worry about it.

The rules dont allow it, if it is shot down it doesnt spawn spore mines. .
It doesnt matter if it is RAI or not as the rules are well clearly written. . Sadly..
