I was reading the Swarmlord in 6th thread and saw what I believe is some confusion over Look Out Sir! special rule.
60mm states that a Swarmlord will pass look out sir! tests on a 2+
However to my reading since the beginning of 6th edition and correct me if i'm wrong but it is NOT the characters that take the 'look out sir!' test.
It seems rather stupid to me to imagine that it is the 1 character in a unit that will scream "LOOK OUT SIR!" to himself. This rule again to my understand affects the model who is jumping in the way of the attack about to harm the character.
Page 16 of the Rulebook
Look Out Sir!
"When a wound is allocated to one of your characters, and there is another model from the same unit within 6", he's allowed a Look Out Sir attempt."
- From just reading this in the context that it's used it seems to me the model within 6" is the subject, as he is referenced specifically where as the character is pluralized indicating that they are just the trigger necessary for the other model in the unit to take a test to protect whichever character was in trouble.
My interpretation is further supported by the last line of the rule.
"If no model is in range, then you cannot make a Look Out Sir! attempt"
- Again it seems like it is the model that is required to make the test possible, if the model is not there then no test is taken.
Later in the same rule they go out of their way to explain that look out sir is possible if the unit consists only of characters, allowing characters to declare look out sir! as well to protect another character. Which brings up page 39.
Indepedent characters pass look out sir on a 2+.
This to me means that in such a case where there are multiple characters as stated on page 16, that an independent character attempting to protect another character in the unit only requires a 2+ for his look out sir.
However if the independent character is part of a unit with no other character, he defaults to the standard rules for look out sir where models within his unit may attempt to protect him on a 4+.
Again where is my logic and reading of this rule flawed? I'd like clarification if i am incorrect in my interpretation, because again it seems rather stupid for the character himself to yell 'look out sir' when needing protection.
