When gargoyles fly, or are they still jumptroops!?

So, i have been making a lot of guardsmen latley, so i have been a little low on funds, ahem, and i have been unable to buy the new rulebook. I mean, come on, you cant tell me thats not expensive! Anyways, i have driving myself insane with the question, can gargoyles finally fly!? Or are they still somewhat usless? Please help me! I want to know if i can go bedevil my friend air vehicles. Or, is there i can get the new rulebook cheaper? I dont know.

They are definitely not useless.

they are jump infantry, as it states in the book. only MCs got the 'upgrade; to being FMCs

still jump but now they can move 12" or 6" than you can use the hammer rule or rerole charge

They are jump infantry and, according to the BRB, actually crawl around half the time.

Gargoyles are awesome, they easily net the measly 25% cover you need for your monstrous creatures to get cover, blinding venom is fantastic and you can threaten even high T opponents, and their upgrades are bloody cheap. The one thing that has really annoyed me this edition, especially if you use them as a screen, is make sure if you roll "The Scouring" mission (where Fast Attack can score but they also give up a score if they die), you either have a plan to make up for that easy victory point they'll give up, or hunker them down somewhere on a well covered objective and come up with another option for a screen.

It's really strange though. GW make nid models with fluff "they may never land", removes their legs, give them Flying bases - and still count them as Jump Infantry.
They think it's fun?

Actually gargoyles can land, I thing it was accepted that they slither around snake style. That's how they get into buildings and such.

And that's why Winged HT has Scythings instead of legs, correct?

I hate that. Just bc something flies doesnt mean it doesn't have legs. Birds have legs. You cannot land on scything talons, poor HT has to flap his wings all day, when is he going to rest...lol

I personally model my HT with the feet and wings.

Birds have a life span longer than a single planetary invasion. Bats have attrophied legs, that's why they often resort to hanging. When you remember that many tyranids didn't have fully formed digestive systems you also remember that they're one purpose things that don't need to live that long.

Also, I have my own idea on how winged tyranids get locked in combat.

You simply have to have a backup plan for screening - I use the old Gant/Hive Guard/Tervigon layer in that mission, and it's pretty nice to have one or two extra scoring units I can just leave on my home objective. Also, Gargoyle bases are so big, they can easily spread out to minimize the effect from Vindicators, templates and Krak blasts whereas Gants would struggle.
