Brand new player 500pt Starter Army

I guess I should start off by saying hello, and introducing myself.

I'm a first time poster, and a first time 40k player. I played a bit of fantasy back in the 90's but that essentially amounted to expensive yahtzee as we just lined up two armies on either side of a table and ran them at each other. I've been lurking on this board for a little while, and trying to read as much as I can online. I think I'm starting to get the grasp of it, but I'm sure I've got far to go.

Since I'm starting out I'm rather limited in what I own, and Warhammer isn't exactly a cheap hobby to start up so I'd like to carefully plan out my future purchases. I currently own the following models.

Hive Tyrant x 1
Hormagaunts x 26
Termagants x 16

I was able to field a 499 point army out of those models and I played two games at my local Games Workshop losing both. Moving forward I'd like to invest in the battleforce giving me the following to work with.

Hive Tyrant x 1
Warriors x 3
Genestealers x 8
Hormagaunts x 42
Termagants x 32
Ripper Swarm x 3

I've come up with a few possible armies, but with my limited resources they're all pretty much variants on the same theme. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get to the point here, but without further ado here's the lists.

HQ

Prime with lash whip and bonesword - 95

Troops

Hormagaunt x20 - 120
Hormagaunt with TS x 20 - 160
Termagant x25 - 125

Total 500

or

HQ

Prime - 95

Troops

Genestealers x7 with Broodlord - 144
Hormagaunt x 20 - 120
Termagant x 28 - 140

Total 499


So there you have it. I'm also open to suggestions as to how I can best spend my money on the next few purchases as well. I'd like to get an actual broodlord model as well as another set of warriors since they only provide 3 in the battleforce and I can't field a unit of 2 warriors. Im also new to nids and from what ive gathered warriors are kind of a no go now a days.

Have you actually bought the models already? Perhaps look on ebay for some unpainted models instead and try pick the models that would most likely be what you would like to play with. Or even go on the trading section of the forum if you still hqve your old wfb models?

As for your lists i would definately be inclined to go with the second of the two. Not only because i love stealers but it has more versitility to your list

Asides from that welcome to the forum hope you enjoy your new army? Im absolutely loving nids even painting them which is rare for me lol.

I think the best way to spend your money would be on a Tervigon and som termagants, some Hive Guard, and a box of genestealers built as ymgarls.

The problem I see with the battleforce is that you already have enough hormies, the warriors aren't top tier and the stealers would need converting to ymgarls (or buy a broodlord for them) to be effective. Of course, if you like the models, then by all means, it's your choice and warriors do look good.

edit: didn't see you were sticking with 500, so consider the above advice for moving up to 1000pts.

As for 500pts, you could always go for Doom of Malan'tai in a mycetic spore.
