I dunno... is this kind of auction even allowed in ebays listing rules? Last I checked, you could technically only auction physical objects that you had on hand. Pre-orders were against ebay TOS, basically.

Not at all, I just find it interesting you think someone would actually pay that much money up front with nothing more than a sketch for the concept.

I find the idea rather interesting in fact but I really no use for a 6' tall model that would probably just sit in a corner gathering dust. Though with my electronics knowledge and a little ingenuity it could make really freaky house guard. Imagine the reactions of people breaking and entering when confronted with such a thing...

Going a bit further in that train of thought, this would be a worthwhile costume project...

I believe you would have much better luck finding someone to pay you for your efforts after you have already put the expense into creating the object yourself... instead of expecting someone else to fund the project for you.

If you want someone to fund your project, there are webpages better than ebay for that as well. Such as www.kickstarter.com/

I was only messing around Rehkal, but I suppose if the real creator finds this thread, all that information you posted will come to some use. I suppose humour doesn't translate well into text.

No need to feel bad... I do genuinely find it an interesting concept. It's just a pity the person with the listing isn't going to find much help on his project through ebay. I wouldn't have clicked the auction and almost sent a question through ebay otherwise.

Does bring forth an interesting costume concept though... hmm... Now I'm quite tempted to try commissioning someone for one.

Sounds like someone is trying to do a Kickstarter Through Ebay.

I've seen pre-orders on ebay before now from legit retailers there so I think the pre-order rules might have relaxed a little, or there might be different rules for established market traders over the smaller time sellers (I say this as I can't imagine that any legit retailer there would want to lose their ebay shop, esp when its their only sales point).


So yeah I can see people spending large amounts of money for concept models, heck its been done several times through kickstarter. Of course this users problem is that he's set this up on ebay for a single buyer, which means that a single person has to commission the model. Plus I didn't see any references to the creators other works in modelling so yeah I doubt anyone will actually pay for this.
