Hey there! This is my background story for my Hive Fleet. You all can tell me if it doesn't fit the 40k background. Hopefully it isn't because I would end up change it. I'm all about authenticity. If it fits, who knows. Maybe I'll write more. ;D
Prologue Part I
One of the greatest and most costly battles ever seen by the Ultramarines was the Battle for Macragge. There, they fought a ferocious Tyranid hive fleet known as Behemoth. The battle took place on their chapter world, Macragge where the Ultramarines faced one of their greatest foes yet. When the battered Space Marine chapter had reigned victorious, they pursued the tyranid fleet and eliminated it.... or so they thought.
Little did the Ultramarines realize, that before even they sensed the battle ending, the Hive Mind saw that it was too late for it to regain control of the battle that would allow it to win without taking too many losses. That is why, the Hive Mind sacrificed one hive ship to delay the Ultramarine advance. It then sent the its remaining hive ships that had not yet made it to the battle, out of the galaxy by moving down the galactic plane. Although the Tyranids had lost a large portion of their forces when they Ultramarines had pursued, they had kept much more intact. Only until after under the center of the galaxy did the Tyranid hive fleet go dormant, waiting for the perfect time to strike once again.

Hive Fleet Leviathan had spent more time traveling than many of the other hive fleets, but in the end it was worth it. As began its advanced on the galaxy, it branched off into several splinter fleets, so that the hive fleet would cause damage over a large area. However, one of these splinter fleets would reach gold on its advance and become one of the most powerful forces ever seen in the galaxy.
As it started to reach up, the remaining forces from Hive Fleet Behemoth had awakened and were immediately accepted into the splinter fleet and when combined started devastating the surrounding worlds at an alarming rate. With the tenacity of Hive Fleet Behemoth and the cold, cunning calculations of Hive Fleet Leviathan, Hive Fleet Mortis was born.
