To regen or not to regen?

Hey.

I've only recently started a Tyranid army and haven't played many games. I was wondering what it's worth taking regeneration on. The units that I own which can take it are as follows:

Flyrant
Tyranid Prime
Tervifon
Trygon

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I have regen on my trygon prime and tyranid prime. i love the look on my opponents face when i regen the wounds from all the shooting :-)

Also the fex can take regen but prob worth it on the fex unsure about that

Not really worth it on the c'fex especially if you've got a prime attached for LoS! fun. Great on the prime itself - seriously worthwhile for just 10pts.

Great Value on Tyrant, Harpy, Tyranid Prime and Terv.

Trygon, depends if you throw him against Force weapons very often and if he will be in range of endurance. Carnifex, it costs a lot but it useful IF in a unit to abuse it; however the cost soon ramps up.

Like all upgrades though, it will depend how tight your list is.

I usually don't take regen on anything. I tried putting it on my MC's before when i have extra points. Here is what usually happened, they took no wounds and didn't use regen or they lose all there wouds and still can't.

I, with new look out sir, have questioned it even on tyranid primes... Before being a cheap way to cheap some extra wounds on wound allocation tricks.

Personally for me I see it as a viable option for anything with 6 wounds. That gives you more chance to recover wounds unless you get ID'd...

I never seem to find the points, Toxin is always at the top of the list for spare points.

I pretty much always take it on Tyranid Primes, because it's so cheap for it's potential effect that it feels like a waste to ignore it, and his IC status makes it pretty easy for him to tank a Wound or two and then start passing them off on his Unit until he Regens.

I sometimes take it on a Tyrant with full set of Guard, for similar reasons. He can pick up a couple of Wounds and then LOS! onto the Guards until he gets one back. More expensive, tho, he only has one Unit he can Join and send Wounds to, and he's more likely to draw a huge amount of fire than most Units I'd Join a Prime to.

I might consider it on Fexen in a Brood of two with a Prime attached. Even tho it's harder to spread Wounds around since the FAQ, this Unit can still do so fairly well. Getting really expensive, tho, I'd be significantly more likely to try it if it only cost 20 Points per Fex instead.

On the 6 Wound MCs, it just seems too expensive. At reasonably high Points Levels, it's possible to drop a Tärv or Trygon pretty quickly, and taking Regen just makes that an even more attractive proposition for your Opponent.
