What do the tacticals hope to do? If it's just holding objectives, probably split them at the start of the game and leave the cannons in the rear.

Rest looks simple enough, presumably the Terminators DS using the locator beacon.

The tacticals might as well have the free flamer. It's anti-infantry, just like a bolter, and ignores cover/hits more. Sure you loos 6" or so (from rapid, 18" from full) but I'd rather have a flamer once or twice than another bolt or two every turn.

Do SM have the option to swap for Divination Powers? That primaris power is fantastic.

Also, if you split up the squads, it's a good idea to invest in a Razorback.
(always go for a razorback - it still has the options to turn it into a Rhino )

Arent locator beacons for drop pods and teleport homers for terminators? IF I am running them I usually run 2 for flexibility/redundancy when I am planning on ds'ing the terminators so that if one dies, or is out of position I can come down in the tactically sound spot.


To be honest, I usually walk my shooty terminators with a Cyclone ML because I like people to shoot at them early rather than the rest of my gunline and squishy vehicles. However, I have had good luck darting forward with scouts and then deepstriking the terminators in to force hard target choices.

I agree that you should get some razorbacks which add a lot of flexibility, defense and potentially punch by way of las or assault cannons.

I like heavy support in the SM dex because it is cheap and effective. I tend to run a las/autocannon predator(sometimes a dakka pred) and a thunderfire cannon at everything above 1250. Occasionally I will throw out some ML devastators for funsies, but they are overpriced compared to the current marine standard.

Teleport homers work on all deep strike (Including teleporting, jump packs, and psychic powers like gate), while teleport homers only work with units that specifically say they can teleport and do so (terminators and much of the other grey knight stuff). The big difference is that teleport homers are much cheaper and more widely available in the SM codex.

As for the list posted above:

-A flamer is free for the two tactical squads with no special weapons, take one. At worst, it will help with overwatch.

-Libby is probably a bad choice at that cost. It's your call, but you should really invest in an HQ that isn't easy to kill so the opponent doesn't get that warlord point for almost nothing. I suggest one of the ones with an invulnerable save. Chaplain or captain. If going the libby route, I field mine with Terminator armor (also known as tactical dreadnought armor) and a storm shield. The 2+ armor and 3+ invulnerable save will make that librarian a very tough customer to take down.

In terms of cost, I run mine without the second warp charge unless at a point level closer to 2k. So he's a meager 140pts (pretty low-average for SM). You can still take gate and avenger, as both can have situations where you want one or the other.

If you get a chance, Chaplain Cassius is one of the better HQs in that codex, especially at low point levels (125pts is dirt cheap). He's a T6 chaplain with FNP. Very useful as a warlord, as he's unlikely to die any time soon.

-Plasma cannons are nice, though you may find them disappointing as being blast weapons, they are unable to snapfire. This means that they can't hit flyers (blast weapons can't hit flyers even if they get skyfire from a mysterious objective) and can't overwatch. I'm not saying they are bad, just something you should be aware of.

Anyway, I think the list looks fine as is, these are just possibilities you could explore. Have fun with that codex.

First off, I like the look of the army - 2 good big units, scouts, terminators, a flyer.. only thing you don't have is a vehicle or dread but in 1000 pts you can't have everything. I like the option of being able to walk the termies or deep strike them in, so you can play that by ear and situation. I do agree with the plasma cannon comment above, they are nice when they work, and they are threatening, but they also can get hot, against most AP2 and AP3 models you are only going to catch 2 models under the template and still only have the 1/3 chance to roll the "hit" you want... and as said above, no snapfire, no anti-aircraft, so you are basically paying to have 4 marines guard one heavy weapon guy... a 5 man devastator squad with 2 plasma cannons (and maybe a third big gun) might be a better place to put the marines, but obviously you'd have to reduce the size of one of the tactical squads or find some points elsewhere, but depending on how some of your games play out, you may want to change that up at some point if it's not working for you.

the other option is keeping the tactical squads as 10 man units and just trying to run onto objective or into cover and make the enemy come and dig you out .. in which case the free flamer will be helpful, and it will take a lot of effort to dislodge a full tactical squad that is dug in at 1000 pts.
