My First 6th edition Army List

Hi Hive.

So I just bought some nids to kick off my 6th edition adventures and I am planning on Magnetising and painting them. But that will take a long time and so will learning the rules.

My plan is to whip up a 500 point army from the models I just bought and play several hundred games with them while I learn the rules and save up cash/paint the rest of my nids.

I was hopeing you guys could help me to put together a 500 point army list.

These are the models I bought:
- 1x Hive Tyrant/Swarmlord Kit
- 1x Trygon/Mawlock Kit
- 6x Tyranid warriors
- 16x Genestealers
- 12x Termagaunts.

If you guys could Help me put together a list It would be a great help as my 6th edition Tactics aren't so good well considering I don't know the rules their non existent.

I don't need a list that's super competitive make a Space marine player cry type,but a list where I can have some fun learn the rules and won't get totally Massacred with.

** But if you can make one that will make a Space marine player cry well I might have a few Sm players I hate hanging around the local GW**

You'll have to choose between either the Tyrant or the Trygon, you won't afford both without leaving out most of your other models.

I'd suggest running the Tyrant cheap, no guard or shell and minimal upgrades. Run the rest as it but split the warriors into 2 broods. The Genestealers will have to be only 5/6 strong I think.



The alternative is build a warrior as a Tyranid prime for your HQ and run all your infantry with no monsters.

Is this a good list I tried the Tyrant with twin linked dev's but I though they would be uneffective without wings ( getting into range/acros the board)

That gave me exactly enought points for 2 broods of warriors.

The Tyrant will charge avoiding CC till the later game shooting down squads. The warriors can either go on killing sprees or chase Objectives.

The only issues I can see is that I might get owned simply because of the lack of numbers/wounds.

I would seriously think about swapping those 2 HT powers to Biomancy. It has three great powers for the Tyrant. If you face MEq, there's a lot of fun in enfeebling a unit to T3 and then unloading 2x6 strength 6 shots into them.
The Tyrant also gets a lot more survivable with Iron Arm or Endurance.

Maybe you should take out 1 group of warriors for 5 stealers (70) and 10 termagants (50). Gives you at least one unit to sit on objectives.

How about this.

I dropped one warrior squad for 10 devil gaunts, and regen on the Hive Tyrant.
As for the Psychic powers I haven't actually read the rules yet. I was gonna paint/Magnetise this army while I finnish saving up for the book/read it. Then play games with the army untill I learn the rule really well.

So since Psychic powers don't require any physical parts on the model I will just work that out after I have a good understanding of the rules. But I'll keep a note of biomancy/Iron arm/Endurance and enfeebling.

I just need some general help on the actual wepons and structure of my list.

Anyways I will charge the Flyrant and warriors. They will tkae objectives as they move up and the devil gaunts will destract/take objectives in my opponents board side.

So I made 3 Armies with the advice given by you guys and various friends Gw staff ect.
I decided I would not use a Prime as I would like to have a big beast in there either the Swarmlord/Flyrant or Tyrant.
But to the point here are the three lists Please vote for one of them so I can decide on a army and get all the tools ready to make them
(Magnets,GS ect).

List 1:== HQ ==
Swarmlord (1) = 280 pts.

== Troops ==
Tyranid Warrior Brood (3) - Pair Of Boneswords, Rending Claws = 120 pts.
Tyranid Warrior Brood (100 pts.)
Tyranid Warrior (2) - Devourer, Scything Talons = 60 pts.
Tyranid Warrior (1) - Barbed Strangler, Scything Talons = 40 pts.

== Total ==
500 pts.

In this list i will have one shooty warrior brood and one cc brood. They will charge and sit on objectives. The tyrant will run wild on dead enemies or objectives.

List 2:== HQ ==
Hive Tyrant (1) - Twin-Linked Devourer - Brainleech Worms, Twin-Linked Devourer - Brainleech Worms, Regeneration, Wings, The Horror, Leech Essence = 280 pts.

They tyrant will charge while the warriors and gaunt go for objectives. Hopefully I cna set up synapse to keep the gaunts on my objectives sane.

This one is very simple. All my nids charge the warriors destroy the opposition and take objectives and the tyrant does the same.

Army 4:

Swarmy goes crazy. The warriors escort the gaunts. and both of them claim objectives.

Yeah, I'm also for the 2nd list. The Flyrant will be a lot safer than Swarmy and be able to dish out some damage. It also has the best staying power on objectives with those devilaunts.

But my issue is that how do I keep synapse on my gaunts considering that I need the warriors after dropping the gaunts off on an objective to chase another objective as well. Won't my gaunts get left with out synapse and be picked off. The boards too big to keep my gaunts in check. But I do like the 30 dev's shots.

Ohkay, I understand the desire to use the Hive Tyrant, but really, in 500 pt games, especially if you are just trying to learn the game and the army, I would recommend a much simpler list...

Hive Tyrant with twin linked devourers ... 185
3 Tyranid Warriors with 3 deathspitters .. 105
8 Genestealers ... 112
12 Termagants ... 60
=== 462 pts so you have almost 40 pts of upgrades, biomorphs, etc to work with... can throw a heavy weapon on Warriors or give them rending claws or give toxin sacs or adrenal sacs or upgrade the hive tyrants psyker powers..

but this list is a bit more realistic.. Hive tyrant + 2 groups of Warriors is only 7 models and only 22 wounds... this list is 24 models and 33 wounds... your other list has only 3 shooting models, this one has 16 shooting models... 6th edition makes charging a much more risky and unreliable move... so having an almost all melee army (other than psykers) looks cool, but with snapfire/overwatch and with Tyranid Warriors being susceptible to instant death from multi-meltas, meltaguns, krak missles, and powerfists there is just too much risk IMHO in going all tyranid warriors and a tyrant...

realistically, for 500 pts, a Hive Tyrant is also a bit of overkill IMHO.. yeah, he is awesome looking and yeah, he likely is going to pwn anything else on the able, but if you are trying to learn the game, you should take a mix of models and some melee (genestealers), some ranged (termagants), and a mix (warriors, hive tyrant) and get the feel for how they each work...

Also, your lists seem to maximize the cost of each model.. a 30 pt tyranid warrior with scything talons and devourer is still potent, while a 50 pt warrior with a pair of boneswords and deathspitter and toxin sacs or adrenal glands is 66% more expensive and still dies on a STR 8 hit and still can go down to massed bolter fire before he gets into melee (in hind site, you didn't go above 40pts for your warrios, but still, a pair of boneswords are potent, but not necessarily needed in 500 pts unless you are facing a deathwing army of terminators IMHO).. =p

again, my humble opinion...

my own 500 pt 'nid force is a Tyranid Prime with deathspitter and rending claws, 3 Warriors with barbed strangler, 5 genestealers, 12 hormagaunts, 3 Tyranid Shrikes with deathspitters, and 10 gargoyles... not much heavy weapons, no psykers, but a flexible mix with plenty of melee options and putting the Prime with the unit of Warrios makes them much more effective WS 5/BS 4... I wish I had room for some toxin sacs on the gargoyes or a few more upgrades ...

Alternatively, would you rather agree to go up to 750 pts with your opponent and then you could realisticaly use the hive tyrant and still get to play with the termagants and genestealers while learning the game?

Ever considered raveners for a 500 pt list? they're pricey, but they are beasts (literally and figuratively) in cc, a potential 6 S5 attacks each on the charge (out of synapse, rage), and rending, + they are 12" move and fleet. a group of three screened by gargs are sure to get some hate...
