So we have a 2k tournament coming up in Atlanta, Ga on Sept 23, 2012. Full 6th edition rules with Allies, Double FOC, Mysterious everything, player put terrain. If it's a 6th edition rule, then it's in. Also, Forgeworld 40K approved units are in as well.
My Basic Core Units:
HQ:
Hive Tyrant (Hive Commander, LW+BS, TL Devs, Toxin Sacs, Wings) - 280
Elite:
Doom w/ Mycetic Spore (TL Deathspitter) - 140
8 Ymgarls - 184
Troops:
Tervigon (Crushing Claws, Toxin Sacs, Adrenal Glands, 2 Biomancy) - 220
Tervigon (Crushing Claws, Toxin Sacs, Adrenal Glands, 2 Biomancy) - 220
10 Devilgants - 100
10 Devilgants - 100
Fast:
None
Heavy:
Trygon (Toxin Sacs) - 210
Devilfex (Dual TL Devs, Toxin Sacs, Frag) w/ Mycetic Spore (TL Deathspitter) - 255
Base Army Points: 1709
Strategy: Deploy both Tervigons & two 10 man Devilgants. Trygon either deep strikes or deploys depending on opponent. This is a Turn 2 Alpha strike with Doom, Ymgarls, Hive Tyrant, Trygon & Carnifex all arriving usually on a 2+. Prime & Warriors included if they make the list (see below). I usually get all but one unit in from reserves on turn 2. Then I just use Biomancy to increase durability and enfeeble when possible. Claim objectives for the win.
Now, I have been running different units lately to fill out this army. I have another post called "1999 +1 Hybrid List" for details. I'm posting this to get direct feedback as that's more of a blog of my battles.
Option #1: 290 points
Pros: Scoring, Outflanking, Line Breaking, Close Combat, Shooting
Cons: Slow to move & Shoot, vulnerable to Str 8
Strategy: Attach the Prime and use Hive Commander to Outflank (usually arrive turn 2)
HQ: Tyranid Prime (LW+BS, Deathspitter, Toxin Sacs) - 110
Troop: 4 Warriors (Deathspitters, Dual Bone Swords) - 180
Option #2 (Deathleaper): 390 Points
Pros: Psyker defense (Eldrad, Librarian, Swarmlord), Extra assault unit turn 3, scoring/line breaking troop (Warriors) unit via outflanking
Cons: Lose Toxin Sacs on Monstrous Creatures, Vulnerable to Str 8+, Lose 2 Ymgarl Genestealers (reducing their effectiveness)
Strategy: Use Deathleaper to lower key Psyker leadership, ambush soft units with 2+ cover save, +1 Reserve bonus if enemy has -1 modifies in their army. Outflanking Warriors unit to Linebreak/Score/Contest
HQ: Tyranid Prime (LW+BS, Deathspitter) - 100
Elite: Deathleaper - 140
Troops: 3 Warriors (LW+BS, Deathspitter) - 150
Option #3 (Fast Attack): 320 Points
Pros: Mobile cover save, Raveners are fast & deadly, Scoring in the Scouring, underestimated units
Cons: loss of Outflanking Troop unit, loss of spore shooting, lose Toxin Sacs on Tyrant & Carnifex, 1-2 rounds of shooting at them (possible easy First Blood KP)
Strategy: Gargoyles screen the Raveners and Trygon moving up the table utilizing cover & los blocking terrain.
Fast Attack: 10 Gargoyles (Toxin Sacs, Adrenal Glands) - 80
Fast Attack: 6 Raveners (Devourers, Rending Claws) - 240

I've played with all three lists, I only lost with the Deathleaper list and that was against a very good Tyranid Player who showed me what Smash and Enfeeble will do to our MCs... LOL
What would you do? I'm having some success, and this tournament will have all of the heavy hitting tournament style lists there. I am currently 9:1:0 with these three lists against fair players and average lists.
2000 points.
All the 6th Edition Rules:
* 2 FOC? If that's what you need.
* Allies? Sure.
* Fortifications? How else do you plan to shoot down flyers?
* Warlord traits? Yep.
* Alternating terrain placement? You betcha.
* Mysterious Terrain? Water and forests, yes. Don't you love razorwings?!?
Plus, the "40k" Forge World models and characters are legal. I.e., nothing with structure points, no gargantuan creatures. (Not the FW army lists, though. Sorry.)
