yesterday my buddy Erik and me had a nice 2k throw down and here are a few things that i learned from it.
he bred a bunch of scarab bases that tar pitted my raveners and were about to munch on some stealers and gants. i dealt with them by the brood lord casting warp speed on himself and the swarm lord granting him furious charge. that gave him ST6, with talons to re roll 1s to hit and poison to re roll to wound each attack of his caused ID and he made short work of them. it would have been better to cast enfeeble on the scarabs, at T2 even ST4 attacks cause ID, combined with some devilgants, raveners or furious hormagants would work wonders against them lil buggers.
the swarm lord was fighting 3 tomb spiders and a bunch of wraiths with whip coils but he came through. endurance and iron arm kept him alive to first take out the wraiths (bone sabres that cause ID and force re rolls on successful invulnerable save just rock) and after they were gone a few pokes at the spiders made them shrivel up and die. it mainly worked because he only had one tyrant guard, so they were fighting against a WS of 9 (needing 5s to hit) and a T of 7-9 due to the 50% majority rule.
devilgants with preferred enemy from the swarm lord and shooting at an enfeebled unit of warriors was quite spectacular as well, after the warriors were gone and Oberon was all by himself a volley from the hive guard turned him to mush, ST8 causing ID on his enfeebled T4 after rolling a 1 for his armor save.
IMO the new psi powers are a great boost for the nids, there are plenty to go around and the buffs and debuffs from biomancy take nid synergy to a whole new level.
i am also loving the sneaky stuff that can be pulled with challenges and the fact that the Trygon is not a character, his attacks would usually mean overkill against a character so he is much better off beating on a unit anyways.
