Good day to you.
First to say about synapse:
- With new changes to Feed rule, we no longer restricted to charge into closest unit with our raged creatues, so synapce do not needed to retain control over hormagants and melee raveners, because there is a drawback - no shooting. Even better - we got now +2 attacks instead of +1.
- So only our shooting units need to be in control. Termagants, hiveguards, biovores (pyrovores - not !) - they are good with even 1 warrior OR leader. Gargoyles and skylashers require shrikes. But why synapse is important? Because of changes to Fearless - the bad side is that we cannot go to ground while fearless. So with synapse all over the board our hormies and gargs just cannot gtg when needed, and termies cannot hide for a turn in some area terrain, givin time for others to maneuvre. Synaptic creatures is important for tactics on the field, distractions, retreating and counterattacking.
- Yes, synaptic creatures are vital, but it is more of a merit, than a flaw. Becouse it gives us fluidity on battlefield.
- Constructive suggestions - give Lictor Alpha "pheromones" (6" synapse), Broddlord Alpha synapse 12", and Zoanthrope synapse 24" (limiting it to primaris powers, in wich I aggree)
About warriors and warrior prime:
- Prime is not so customisable, the only difference is better stats, armor and regeneration. And ofcource independent character, wich we do not use here. He doesnt have heavy weapons, wings, special biomorphs and its base cost is 80, not to mention he is HQ. The case is - there is no sergants in tyranids army, there is synaptic creatures. Back in 4th edition ( I think I am a bit fan of it, sorry) - warriors were the most versatile units, as long as Carnifexes =) (Here I must admit that warriors should be in "core" section.) So I think 1 or 2 warriors is ok if you want to spread and split conrol over the board. If not - grab Zoanthrope with above modification and take 1 Hive guard and 2 biovores, everything else - hormagaunts, simple as that. If you want fast attack - 1 shrike and 1-2 garg broods would make the deal.
And about armory:
- If we will look at biomorphs for broodlord in 4th edition we can see feeder tendrils and flesh hooks (they were able to make vertical walls into diff terr), nice addition for him and stealers around
- Flesh hooks again almost for everyone (including rippers and gaunts)
- Symbiotic rippers, leaping legs and even bioplasma for warriors.
- And (deam, oh dream...) "Without numbers" for termies!
With best regards.
