I lost the game 5-1.
It was Relic, Hammer and Anvil.

I learnt a lot because i've not faced such a deathstar like this before.
The banner insta killing Trygons is not nice.
He rolled up the ability to shoot overwatch with normal ballistic skill also which is savage.

I did forget a few things like rolling for fear for my MC's
I also totally forgot that I was wounding on a 4+ rerollable so I should of done a lot more damage than I actually did.

I did though go first and I'm unsure how bad this would of been if I didn't.
I think i would of still got the charge off turn 1 going second into his Guard.

It was one of those games as well where luck seems to go against you.

The list needs some work, this was a very basic initial build.
Ill drop the regen on the Trygons for sure and maybe even drop one of the Trygons for something else.
Maybe a Tervigon but I'm not sure if that helps either.
The list needs the MC's to take on overwatch.

When i intially charged into Drago and Palladins I didn't commit enough into it.
I charged in with 2 Trygons and one squad of Stealers. The trygon took the Overwatch but they fell over one by one over 2 rounds of assault. The Stealers did well and I should of committed more Stealers.
I think if I had of charged him with 3 units of Stealers and at least one Trygon it could of gone differently.

It was good to play this GK/IG list though, its pretty competative and my mate plans to use it in tournaments.

Expereince counts for a lot and I would of done things a little differently next time.
So perhaps for now Ill add a few more Stealers and drop the regen and see how that goes.

I think you had a bad match-up with your stealer list against Draigo and his Pals.
The best way to handle them is probably drowning them in expendable gaunts or shooting him with lots of devilgaunts.

Whichever, you need lots of bodies to deal with this, and your list is more of an elite list.
I really wonder if you could have done much better than what you did, with the BL/GS list.

This is only based on my own experience from 4 games, but it is a very hard list to fight against.

Yep, I think your right, It's a hard matchup for sure.

I do though think it could of gone better with:

Better than average dice rolls
Remembering Hammer of Wriath
Remembering Fear
Remembering rerolling to wound on a 4+ with Stealers.

I actually underestimated the Drago/Coteaz/Pallidin/Banner Deathstar.

I should of either commited more into the fight against them intially or stayed well clear of them.

I think I will drop one Trygon and try Doom for the time being just to see if that makes a more rounded list and get some more Stealers with the left over points.
Now knowing what that unit is capable of helps me to plan against it.

Just for the record Fear doesn't work on Paladins anyway as they have ATSKNF, so you only have to remember it when charging non-fearless guard units in this case.

The maxed Paladin squad is very, very dangerous and incredibly durable, although this one didn't have FnP which is unusual. In my experience it's best to 'ignore' it and endeavour to win via objectives. The Paladins are slow and can only target one unit per turn, although admittedly said target will probably die.

It is easiest to tie them down with cheap trash broods, although obviously with your list this is difficult.

Keeping them still is indeed a tough call even though they are slow.
I'll try to ignore them completely and see how that works out.
Perhaps I should of just grabbed the relic and ran and just tried to deal with his IG. Manticore was devastating for the only shot it got off before it died.
Need to spread out much more than I did.

Lots learnt anyhow so a good experience.
Wouldnt mind trying this list against some other Touranment lists.

A Iron Arm Tervigon with CC has a little bit better chance against the Paladins, than the Trygon, since they can't ID it. If a nearby Broodlord cast Endurance on him then your odds go up. However they can still kill it with wounds with good rolling, especially since Draigo is wounding on 2s.

To increase your odds, spawn and charge with Termagants to soak Overwatch and then charge with the Tervigon too.

This only works of course if you decide to drop the Trygon for a Tervigon.

LW&BS Warriors or Shrikes will do a number on them though.

Yes, his list is brutal. But you have to be brutal and use the most cheese possible if you want to do well in tournament play.
I wanted to test against the worse kind of cheese possible to get an idea of how this Broodlord spam will do against the worsed it could meet and I think this list is one of them.

I think I might try the Tervigon, it would also be useful in Objective games although as you pointed out its not a perfect answer to that 1000 point cheese unit.
Think I might do some testing at home and see how many Trygons and Stealers it takes on average to put that unit down.

With that Power he has to shoot at normal Ballistic skill for charging means I need something to suicide charge into them snce that could even mean loosing a Trygon to the charge.

But.. I'm not going to dwell on it too much. Not everyone plays this list and I certainly don't want to start making changes just because i lost to it.

I will test further before committing to changes I think.

If you ever plan on assaulting Draigowing, go BIG or go home.

If you would grab the relic, I would just kite his Draigo around the board. Occasionally sacrificing a stealer unit to slow him down. (Placing a line of stealers 1" from the paladins, means they cant move forward. they can shoot the stealers to death, or assault them to death. But either way, the paladins don't get to move much.)

Kill everything else in his army, and run away from the paladins.

2 suggestions based on previous reading of paladin deathstars...

1) Isn't it better to shoot them down than to address them in assault? i.e. 2 squads of 20 devilgants? Back that up with a Tervigon and your gants have AG/TS, a round of shooting to soften them up, + overwatch when he assaults?

2) Venomthrope? When they charge into your deathbubble, he should hypothetically lose 1 of 6. That, in conjunction with gants should allow you to overwatch him to take another down possibly then send in your tervigon.

I know this changes your list a bunch, but again you said you just wanted to face the cheesiest list to see how you'd fair, but a tervigon would really help this list....

The big problem with the Broodlord spam list is that you have no disposable units to just toss at deathstars to tarpit them. Then you could have concentrated on ripping the IG contingent apart.

What powers did you go for with everything?

Paladins are ludicrously resistant to small arms fire, if we take 40 devilgants (120 shots, 60 hits, 30 wounds) you cause 5 failed saves, reduced to ~3 failed saves via FnP and said saves can then be bounced around the squad via Lo,S to minimise any possible casualties. When the squad has 20+ wounds as in this case it takes an unfeasible quantity of S4 shots to knock it down to any sort of reasonable level. Similar deal with assault except the Overwatch/I6 halberds strike first to further reduce your potential damage.

Venomthropes only force Dangerous Terrain checks; and the Paladins are allowed armour saves against those, plus FnP if they have that.

And I disagree. You have plenty of disposable units. The stealer units are 150 pts.... sacrificing 2-3 in order to neutralize an entire Draigo bubble.... worth it.


Granted, I would rather run first, and then use the broods that have lost 1-2 stealers first. Lets say attack a solodin, then once you lose a stealer... act as a speedbump to the Draigodins.

Of course I would rather use a 75 pt gaunt unit... but the stealers are still disposable enough.

To answer Gloomfang, I went for Telekenisis on all Broodlord hoping to be just in range of his Chimera/Manticore with Objuration Mechanicum with 3 infiltrated Broodlords.
I rolled up 2 OM and i couldnt get close enough. I was about half an inch from me popping those on the manticore first turn. The rest either had a Gate(2) or Dome(4).

Biomancy on Flyrants hoping for Iron Arm(1) enfeeble(1) and endureance(0).

I should of done better but screwed up due inexeperince of playing his list and forgetting to apply toxin sacs lol...

Thinking about it enfeeble would cause ID wounds from Flyrants devourers and Trygon attacks although still a case of actually charging it with something suicide style if he gets that overwatch power off.
Could be worth doing with one unit of Stealers that are half dead.
Trygons with Rage are 8 attacks on the charge + Hammer of Wraith.

I think i need a replay.
