What should I purchase to bump up to 1000 pts?

I am a new player with roughly 750 points of Tyranids in my army.

I currently own the following units:

1 Tyranid Prime
5 Tyranid Warriors
16 Hormagaunts
16 Termagants
16 Genestealers
1 Broodlord
1 Zoanthrope
1 Venomthrope

I field about 750 points curently but want to bump my list up to 1000 points. I want to do that by adding a HQ monstrous creature to my list. Either the Tyrant or Tervigon.

So, my question is, which should I purchase that would benefit me most for thousand point games? Tyrant, or Tervigon?

My preference is the Hive tyrant. But just barely.

In your case The Tervimom may also require you to invest in more termagants as well. With only 16 you will probably run out of models before you are done spawning (in my experience).

Yeah, that's right. I've been quite patient and restrained with investing in this crazy hobby, so the money factor is a big consideration for me.

although you would need to buy a few more termagants i still think that the Tervigon with CC and three powers will allow you more versatility in your army and a support unit for your already heavy troops section, if you were to have it as a troops choice its a Scoring MC that can cap an objective in the 6th ed objective heavy games.

again like tempests it is barely! (and the tyrant box does not come with deathspitters the most likely choice for you)

I would say Tervigon (and yes, you will need more gaunts too for that to work), because as your games grow, it will move from HQ to Troops, and a Tyrant is WAAY too expensive (points wise) to play in 1000.

I dislike them personally and don't field them. But everyone seems to love them and I can see their usefulness!

I'd Have to go with the Tyrant, (again only just) as with armoured shell or wings it's great and it's powers just rock, it's a perfect chacter killer especially with Implant attack and TS, Never underestimate, LW & BS ever.

I vote Tervigon and for the termies, do what I do and pick up the $8 boxes of 5 here and there.
