Hive Tyrant + TS and magnet question

i was wondering is it worth taking TS on the HT if i take OA?

also will 3/16"x1/16" magnets be strong enough to hold MC (more importantly my HT swarmy bodies) upper and lower bodies together without sliding or pulling apart? mainly if i magnitize the lower and upper body of the sawrmlord can i pick him up by his upper body while moving him in play and not have his lower body stay on the table =P

OA is mainly useful for hitting, but TS are far more worth it, don't forget against Talos & Wraithlords/seers and the like (T7+) ur wounding on 5/6s respectively, with TS it's 4+, and on top of that HOW & Smash hits also benefit from the reroll, OA doesn't have any of these bonuses. so if anything get TS and not TS, your generally going to be hitting on 3s but wounding can be tricky, don't forget u can hit all u like but if u can't wound the darn thing, then all those hits mean nothing.

Not particularly, most things you will wound on a 2+ anyway which preferred enemy covers if you roll a 1.

The magnets should be fine but I'm not sure why you would want to magnetize the torso to the legs.
There a very few reasons i can think of which that would be worth doing that and trust me, this is coming from a guy that has magnetized the spawning sac of a Tervigon so i can also use it as a Tyranofex and the arms of Termagants so i can run Devourers if required.

i want to magnitze the legs and torso so i can base the flying HT bottom and the walking HT/SL. so one model can server for all three.

OA lets you reroll 1s for hit and wounds. i guess how i use the HT depends too. im assuming most of the time im going to be rolling with dual TL devs, otherwise i think keep 1 ST and TS is cheaper and better than OA. im taking OA for the guants the HT will be follwoing though.

The situation in which S6 isn't enough is not worth essentially stacking the same buff on most targets.

10 points means a lot in a Tyranid list and seeing that you should have plenty of smaller creatures rocking poison attacks already the Tyrant really doesn't need TS when you have OA.

A big trap people get in with Tyranids is thinking that the best thing to do is to deck out your Power Units so they can deal with any threat, you just end up with a majorly expensive unit that will never make it's points cost back.

I'm presuming your magnetizing the wings as well then, in which case go for it.

Hmmm.... it depends on how many times you will be fighting T5+ models without using Smash Attack.

yes i will be magnitizing every arm head and wings =P

i figured for smaller units with T5 its probably better to just smash them, larger units maybe keep the extra attacks. not sure though.

I wouldn't bother with TS to be honest. Between smash, OA, enfeeble and potentially PE from Swarmlord, I can't see much need for it.

The strength of a magnet depends more on the grade than on the size, but I would nonetheless be skeptical about such a small magnet being able to hold the torso (particularly with the added weight of the wings when you're using the Flyrant configuration).

You might be better off pinning the torso and the legs with some brass/aluminum rod (although that means the torso will come off if you pick it up vertically). You could also use a protruding cylindrical magnet on the waist, and a sunken magnet on the torso, so that in effect it becomes a sturdy combination of pinning and magnetization.

@ Harvey: How did you magnetize your T-gon/T-fex's arms? I assembled my first T-gon recently, and considered magnetizing it for the T-fex option, but none of the magnets I had were small enough to sink into the shoulder sockets while also being strong enough to hold up the huge T-fex weapons.

I'd also be interested in seeing how you magnetized the spawning sac, which looked like another deviously difficult operation. Any pics?

I can show you how I did it:


Tervigon with scything talons (obviously)


Here you can see the stomach pieces. I cut off part of the plastic sprues and glued the magnets to those. They're circled.


Here you can see the magnets in the talons. The one on the left got a little crushed. There are also magnets in the body sockets.


Here's the...big gun. Notice that the arm is glued to the gun, but there are no magnets on the arms. I'm not done with painting this piece.


I can just carefully load the glued together gun into the body sockets. It's not stiff enough to hold it off the table, but I don't really care about that.

you can also combine magnets and pins for the awkward pieces like that cannon so it's not dragging it's donkeykong in the dirt.
