So, just played my first two games of 6th edition, playing nids for the first time since third. Made quite a few mistakes, however, it was good fun and a good learning experience all around.
Game 1: Tyranids vs. Eldar
Relearned why I hate Warwalkers so very very much.
Despite my flyrant being a flyrant, I completely forgot to swoop him, for the entire game. My opponent also had his army set up to provide a nice little meat bubble to prevent my few shooting attacks from getting anywhere near close to his farseer.
Very little was done on my end, my gaunts died in turn two, followed by my tyrant in turn three. The warriors remained largely untouched, being on the far end of the board. Although they got some nice shooting off on a zooming group of jetbikes. in Turn five. Turn six saw my Trygon prime get killed, while doing minimal damage to a group of Dire Avengers at range.
Game was lost, with my only having one unit left on the board, and only inflicting a few disabling wounds to three units. Warwalkers, killing nearly everything that got scrapped save for the one gaunt taken by avengers...
Game two: Tyranids Vs. Space Marines.
Went far (very far) different for my second game. Remembered to swoop in the second game, placing my tyrant in a very preferable kill spot, and due to some lucky consolidation in close combat, survived the entire game.
My first turn I swooped in almost directly on top of a combat squad, tried and failed to leech essence on the unit, and was subsequently shot at by near everything that could fire on it. Suffered only one wound, but failed a one of three grounding tests and was wounded again. Second turn leeched essence again, pulling two wounds to heal the tyrant back to full health, and charged to reduce the squad to a single man, who passed leadership and locked combat. A landspeeder passed by the gaunts (who followed it doggedly, failing two consecutive IB tests) which had gone after the warriors sitting in back field. Turn three saw my Trygon hit the board, trying(and failing) to do anything to a razorback with it's pulse. The lone marine stood defiantly in front of the tyrants talons, and was thusly eaten, the tyrant consolidating behind a ruin. The Warriors charged the speeder, causing enough damage to stop it firing on them for a turn. It sped off during the opponents following turn. During which, the opponent disembarked his unit within, and used both to fire at the trygon, causing a total of three wounds. He was also able to get his assault marines on table, who were just in range to finish off the warriors. Turn five the trygon charged the razorback in an attempt to destroy it, only causing causing two(I think) hull points of damage to it and disrupting it's ability to fire. The Tyrant charged the Captain's squad, killing everything but the captain himself, leaving him with one wound. He countercharged with his assault marines, who succeeded in putting a single wound on the tyrant. The last turn saw the tyrant killing the captain, and the trygon charging the assault marines, reducing them down to three models. They(unsuprisingly) passed their leadership and in the next turn, they attacked the Tyrant, for no resulting damage. The game ended there, with an interesting exchange of random information and handshakes and such.
It should be noted, his single dreadnaut spent nearly the entire game chasing after my gaunts, who were nicely hid behind a hill. he inevitably shredded the unit down to a single gaunt, that for whatever reason decided it was the most fearless gaunt in the hive. Poor thing died after deciding that attacking the dreadnaut seemed like a good idea. (later I was told that even in spite of IB feed, it could have elected to fail, and thusly fall back)
In total the results of the battle were thus::
Tyranids:
units killed: 2
first blood
warlord killed
Space Marines:
Units killed: 2
victory is nice... especially after 2 1/2 years out of the game, and over a decade of not playing an army.
Thoughts and critiques?
