Double Flyrant Deployment/Tactics and Strategies

Hi all,

Been thinking about strategies for a double Flyrant list to help them survive as much as possible.

For instance deployment and opponent countering deployment for you to only Swoop them off the board and bring them back in on the other side.

Or, buffing one Flyrant with psychic powers and Swooping the unbuffed one off the board.

Any have any interesting ideas?
These guys are a lot of points, they need to do some damage inline with their point cost before the bite the dust.

Any thoughts and advice appreciated.

Start them in area terrain because we get cover for that now. Might have to risk the dangerous terrain test, but it's great if you go second. And of course aiming for endurance or iron arm for FnP/iwnd or t7-9 is always a good idea.

Your going to invest a lot of points into them, better make sure the rest of your army is solid and holds together even without. Them, because they can die.

I have never considered flying them off the board. What I really think I need is a situation where that's a good idea.

MCs, along with anything with move through cover, are now immune to dangerous terrain.

Having both buff 1 tyrant and the other leave the board isn't a bad idea actually. If nightfighting is in play you can of course just hang back in cover for 2/3+ cover/unshootable range.

Ah! I overlooked that one. I'm going to go barreling into cover after people more often now

I do like the sound of buffing one Flyrant and leaving the other one safely off the board.
It's situational of course based on powers rolled and the army you are facing.

In some situations you could leave him on the board in cover.

It seems a shame to hide both of them for a whole turn.

Imagine getting Iron Arm on one and Endurance on the other, then Say a Tervigon rolling Telekine Dome.
Your Flyrant could end up being T9, FNP, It will not Die with a 5+Invuln. Swoop him up the board and let him be somewhat of a fire magnet while the rest of your army advances.

Your opponents choice is to ignore him, in which case he will cause havoc on your front lines the following turn.
Or try and put him down.

Any other tricky suggestions?
I'm trying to think of other tactics where flying off the board could be useful.

It would be having them on the table while the opponent has one of those weapons that will pick them off real easy. Should you have another unit that can easily dispatch the weapon in question, but only in a turn or so, it may be worth while to fly off the board if you can't get out of range.

That is the situation, though you could easily argue that if the situation arises, you are already doing something wrong. I don't disagree with this reasoning, but that would be the situation.

I suppose the other situation is if your just trying for point/wipe denial. Should the flyer be the warlord, worth a VP due to the mission, or one of the last units alive (not the last), it may be viable to fly off the board to deny the enemy the score.

This second one, really is situational, but has merit.

Regarding my above post, casting Telekine Dome on the Flyrant isn't even needed because I understand that FnP now gives 5+ against everything except for instant death.

So therefore FnP works against grounding tests and anything other than ID

But still a viable option, Dome with Endurance will give you a 5++ against anything shooty AP3 and higher.

You'll get just FnP for grounded tests.

If you cast Endurance and Dome on the Flyrant, he would have 5++(invul) AND 5+(FNP). Nothing to do with the AP of the weapons, only Boneswords, Blissgiver and the likes will take away the 5+FNP.

I have a hard time to imagine an army to support 2 Flyrants.
One of them will have endurance or Iron arm himself hopfully so you need other guys to buff them up.
with 3 Tervifexes you have an average of 13 powers in total. Which meanas you should be able to buff both flyrants with Endurance ...in statistic, I wouldn't rely on that.

The best way seems to buff one of them with everything he can get - usually Endurance - and hope he rolls Ironarm for himself.
If you really want to have two regardless of the efficiency you should also take some Zoantrophes with telekinesis to get more rolls. with a little luck one of them will be T7-9, with Fnp, it will not die, eternal warriour and invulnerable save.
Expensive
but on the other hand nice to have cause everything exept iron arm is flexible and you can buff any MC you want to be a little Deathstar.
Without psyker defense and some lucky rolls you can have some serious fun.
