Dealing with Henchmen

I consider myself pretty experienced with my Nids, in my last three RTTs I've gone 7-2 for three straight top 3 finishes, but both of these losses were against GK, specifically "Henchmen spam". In my last game this saturday, I got mopped up by a psyback spam guy that unloaded plasma squads as soon as I got close. Psyfleman wrecked my Hive Guard by the end of turn 2 and I was forced to charge right into his lines. (This was a kill point game, for the record.)

I know that was a bad match up fpr me first of all, but without Tailoring, how do you deal with hordes of 3 man units in boxes?

2 Tervigons
2x10 gants
2x20 super Hormagaunts
2x3 Hive Guard
6 Ymgarls

Can you give a full list that you faced? With new biomancy powers I don't see how psybacks and riflemen really hurt our MCs. 3 guys with bs3 plasma isn't that bad either.

Not knowing lists and terrain, I'd say totally hide the hive guard from sight. Gaunts, swarmlord, and tervigons should provide enough meat to safely hide hive guard.

I faced a similar list the other week and tabled it twice.

Key players for me were dakka Flyrant up a flank, making sure only 2-3 vehicles are in range and work your way along wrecking front/side armour.

Iron arm/endurance Swarmlord marching up the middle drawing fire. AP4 from auto cannons/assault cannons just isn't that scary when you are T7+ and have FnP/IWND.

Granted I probably run a very different list to yours but getting OM on those psybacks will also cripple them. They will struggle to hit FMCs and struggle to rend anything, leaving you with armour on all your MCs. The henchmen just mop up later.

You were quite unlucky with Swarmlord powers. Were you hoping for invis on him? I'd rather stick with biomancy until I get a blessing before shifting to some telepathy.

I think you got a little shafted by not knowing his army well enough, including the list. I tend to run mostly stealers as troops so infiltrating makes it easy for me to react to his deployment. Not so much for your Tervi spam.

I think you could beat him but would need to play quite cautious. He doesn't have a lot of long range.
