Beasts of war 1800pt army list

Just watched the video from Beasts of War regarding the best tyranid army for 6th edition.

What do you think needs changing? Or is it the best list?

well... what else is on the tervigons? Doom's points are probably better spent elsewhere, as is the second Flyrant's minimal gaunt and gant units die fast and depending on how you play, any version of a stealer can be a game winner or loser.

Personally? This list would not work for me, two little dedicated CC, and this list seems to be IG-lite, which, if I wanted IG, I would play IG.

My BIG problem with "THIS IS THE BESTEST LIST... EVAR!" claims, is yeah, it might be good, for people with the same playstyle as the poster. However, likely 80% of the people that play the game, do not play the same way, and making such cookie cutter statements annoys me. Fact is, this list, I can beat, fairly easily actually.

I personally think this is a horrible list. It totally misses the major strengths of Nids and has some horrible flaws.

1) Lots of psykers, but not living up to thier potential. They have 10 Power Slots when they could be running with 14.

2) Nothing that can take out heavy flyers. A shot from a Flyrant only has a 1/6 chance of glancing AV12. Vector strike is 1/2 at glancing at best.

3) No FA or HS. This matters in "Big Guns" and the "Scourging" mission.

4) No synergy (at least that I can see). Tervigons just going to FNP themselves for the first 3 turns until they get near the action where probably everything will be dead?

I don't like it. It looks like someone who doesn't play Nids made it up as it looks like they are trying to be SM.

I saw the video where BoW talked about this list and why it was 'teh bestest list evah'...

It was really clear to me that they didn't play Nids and had no real idea of how they play.
I remember one of the Flyrants having two TL deathspitters AND a HVC, which is impossible
since you only have two sets of ST (really just one and the BS & LW, but anyway) that can
be replaced with another weapon.

But yeah the list is not that good and I don't like the spammy feel either.
You have atleast three units in reserves, but no Hive commander
On any of your two Flyrants... Why?
And why deathspitter on the Flyrants?

The synergy is non existant. Why have two Flyrants fly around and
have the rest of the army slowly lumbering towards midfield?
The Flyrants will be Grounded to death in a matter of seconds and
the DoM and Ymgarls will come in on turn 2 maybe or 3 or 4 while your
Tervigons get the toxin sacs shot out of them from masses of focused fire.

Never ever ever ever take tactical advice from beasts of war. They, I hear, have good painting and modeling (I don't know I am not into either) but DAMN this list just hurts. An no, I don't think they actually play the game, and I know any reviews of units they have is pure theory hammer. They talked a lot in 5th about how good the fex was the best anti tank unit in the codex and how great it is you could take 9.

Now, my bullet points. * means it is an important point.

1) venom cannons are just a joke. They are unable to be used for overwatch, can't hit fliers, AND reduce their accuracy slightly. If it was assault 1, we would be having a different discussion like "6 S6 shots that are twin liked by default are just plane better overall" 

*************2) TWIN LINKED WHAT ON THE HIVE TYRANT? Deathspitters? 

*3) point 2 is exactly why you don't listen to them

4) a tervigon with no psychic powers is a worthless tervigon. One of their tervigons does not have catalyst, this is wrong. This is an abomination. 

5) y genestealers... Too many. 20 in one list? No, just no. The opponent can very easily put models in terrain and watch and laugh as your units die because they can't fit in the terrain. One unit of 6 is preferable because they stand up to overwatch and can easily fit in terrain even if the opponent guesses which price of terrain it is and tries to kill them off.

The list is just something that can only work in casual games. They have the scoring down... But not much else. They have a lot of points put into nothing or very little (25 points for a small blast that might kill a marine, and new vehicle damage rules say that -1 is even more lethal to its damage results, making it impossible to kill without hull points, and can't touch the most popular vehicle type in every list with vehicles.) 

It won't be winning any tournament games unless the opponent is equally bad. 

Stick with their modeling. Stick with their painting. Stick with advise from people who have won tournaments, local or otherwise, and have been playing Tyranids for years (or in my case just extremely actively for the past year and a half )

I stopped taking BoW seriously when in thier intro to 6ththe they got the rules for assault totally wrong.not a little, they missed the entire "inititive steps" part of the rules.

And the carnifax was the best tank killer. It is just overpriced by about 20pts.

You look at it an pretend it could actually get to a tank with its footslogging easily, without getting shot down with its pitiful 4 wounds, and that the trygon with adrenal glands wasn't just straight up better even if the carnifex was 20 points less.

It was "better" because it was stronger, but I didn't face monoliths in 5th edition old necrons all that often, so i didn't care about the carnifex's 4 attacks that glanced it on a 5. Just like I didn't take TS on trygons because I didnt see c'tan that often.

The 7 s7 2d6 armor pen attacks, rerolling to hit attacks from the trygon was better than the 4 s9 reroll able if you didn't go with the devourers build, because it was just not needed... Not against anything we were commonly facing. And factor in 2 less wounds, which even this edition makes me cring, and you have somethig that is not "the best" and you quickly realize why 3 trygons was the go I choice

Matter of prefrence i guess. We had a lot of AV 14 spam where i was playing. Never realy had an issue getting them in cobat either. I always found the trigon to lack the reliable penitration.

But we are getting off topic.We agree the BoW list sucks.

Flyrants with TL Deathspitters. Only a total newb would do that, it's the worst weapon to give to a MC. IMO it's the worst thing you could give to your MC.

Overall, a bad newby list.

Those Flyrants are a waste of points;
No anti tank - yes, you still need that;
Ymgarl spam can backfire horribly, due to a unlucky setup of terrain on the table or if you end up on a wrong side;
Terma/Tervigon spam is ok until you get double dice. A gimmicky setup.

3) No FA or HS. This matters in "Big Guns" and the "Scourging" mission.

If you have enough troops, it doesn't matter. And don't forget that they are worth an extra Victory point in their respective missions so you shouldn't take them for the sake of it.

Tervigon spam is still legitimately a tactic... One that works quite well. T6 6 wound MC's with feel no pain and marine armor as scoring units is never a bad thing, with or without spawns. And with new smash rules they aren't completely sketchy in close combat anymore with 2 s10 attacks, and likely more with new warp speed and crushing claws being popular on them for this very reason.
