Mek's letting the Dreads out to play!

Hey all! Been a while but I am finally going to have my first 6th Ed. battle! A tournament in fact! So my buddy needed a teammate for a 500 pt. doubles tournie that is going on next weekend and I figure I should let the Dreads and Kans out to play!.

HQ:
Big Mek- Kustom force field- 85 pts.

Big mek- Kustom mega blasta, 'eavy armor, ammo runt- 58 pts.

Troops:
Deff dread- 2x DCCW, 2x Big shootas, extra armor, grot riggers- 100 pts.

Deff dread- 2x DCCW, 2x Big shootas, extra armor, grot riggers- 100 pts.

Heavy support:
Killa kans- 3x- DCCW, Grotzooka- 135 pts.

Kannon- 20 pts.

Total: 498 pts.

The plan is to blast things to pieces and
slowly advance to combat range, where the deff dreads really get to have fun slicing things to ribbons... or scrap metal which ever comes first.

My friends list:

Imperial guard:

HQ:
Command squad with a power fist and 2 plasma guns

Troops:
2 units of veterans with 2 plasma guns each

Heavy support:
Executioner leman russ with heavy bolters.

So he is gonna sit back and provide cover fire pretty much and leave combat to me.

So any thoughts on my list?

Just looking at your lists. It seems that in the majority of the battles you will be hurting troop wise. Your Deff's cannot score so if someone takes out the 2 units of IG vets, then you will be hurting for objectives. So go for tabling them

^ What he said. 5/6 missions are objective based and you guys will get screwed on those unless you table your opponents. I'd consider that carefully.

The dreds and kans can score in 'big guns never tire', so it's only 4/6 missions to worry about

Should be fun to play though and the mech wall should be scary enough to draw fire away from the troops.

Sounds like a fun list, just use that cover from the KFF wisely and hope those plasma guns dont ruin your day!

Re-read the 'big guns never tire' mission. Kans and the Kannon will be scoring in that mission, dreads remain non-scoring troops selections.

You are correct in that the mission #2 doesn't use scoring units, so it isn't an issue.

Your seeking a wipe in all other missions.

Would be crazy, but your doing 500pts, so a wipe is realistic as neither side has much to lose. Should be fine.

Really I wasn't overly concerned about objectives to be honest, cause with the kans and Dreads I would just contest them if need be. And there should be plenty of firepower for a small 1,000 pt. game. Although most of the power is geared towards anti-infantry the Dreads all have combat weapons so that'll let me carve up any tank stupid enough to get close! and there is that kannon too!

Mostly concerned about crushing my enemies into paste!

KFF is 5+ for vehicles again right? Because in the codex it says they are "obscured" which means normal cover, or does it mean obscured and therefore gets the coversaves granted by what's obscuring it.

I'd replace the big mek without the KFF with a unit of grots for objectives (or 10 boys). ~5 BS2 shots from the mek won't really do as much as a scoring unit.
