Need a good recommendation for army case

hey guys, over the past year my army has grown from a little brood to a 4,000 point army.

one problem i often have is transporting it all.

i mean most the time i go to my local hobby store and bring everything, this way i have on hand everything i could use from a small to large game, for vs. different armies.

problem is I'm making multiple trips with tons of boxes.

can anyone recommend a nice big GOOD army case company or product that would be good to carry large MC's as well as tons of smaller troops safely?

what do you guys use? pictures would be neat too if you have! thanks again!

Check out BattleFoam's 1520XL or sumesuch. It might be large enough to haul 4K points around. The 720 also attaches (Ithink) if you need even more space..

I don't know what they are called, but my friend just bought all the Battle Foam trays for his 2200 point Tyranid army and the trays are awesome. Custom large tray for his Trygons, Tervigons and Zoanthropes. Hormagaunt trays fit great. Troop trays for Gants. Definitely sold me over Army Transport trays.

yes, battlefoam is the way to go, although I only have the pack go!
it'sgreat since I never take the car anywhere but prefer the bike. sadly it can't fit too much (some two tervigons, three trygons in one of my own design trays and 56 gargoyles) I have the smaller troops magnetized in "first aid containers".

back to the quality of battlefoam. the foam is more dense than for example GW foam so they have thinner walls and thus you get even more troopslots in a single tray. and to top it all off it's fun to make your own trays.

I have a Battlefoam case for my Grey Knights and I think it is great. I do have a question though: How well do your Tervigons/Tyrannofexes fit inide their custom shapes? I look at the ones I have cut in other foam for my own models and they don't seem to be similar at all.

A long time ago I heard someone recommend a rifle case with cut out foam as needed. Seems like a good idea, though Ive never done it

Battlefoam is good. A somewhat cheaper alternative is Sabol army trays, which if I remember right is the kind you pluck to fit your models in.

Battlefoam is the best though sadly for me just to store my warriors & gargoyles in battlefoam would cost me 300....

Both are very good. Battlefoam has custom trays and better reinforced cases but is almost twice the cost of Sabol's Armytransport, which uses pluck foam. The Armytransport cases are just soft cases and they only thing that keeps its form is the foam itself but unless you are going on a plane ride that is fine. (they do have a carry on rated case though) Armytransport cases actualy come to be cheaper than GW cases too where Battlefoam cases are about the same cost or more. (Per inch of foam on both)

AT cases are $35 empty can hold 13" of foam with an avrage cost of $8 a trey (1/4" spacer per trey and on top) [Soft case.]

GW cases are $60 with 4" of foam or $100 for 8" of foam (1/4" spacers per trey and on top) [Hard plastic shell.]

BF cases are $100 empty, $150 with pluck foam, $200 with custom cut foam, and can hold 12" of foam with an average cost of $20 per trey. (pack 720) (1/4" spacers per trey and on top) They have smaller cases and larger cases and the prices range from $50-$200 empty and from $80 to almost $400 with all custom cut treys. [Soft cases with rigid reinforcements.]

It all comes down to how much protection you want for your models and how much you are willing to pay for it. GW is by far the worst choice for a case unless it is say your first case ever and you are just getting started in the game. Ill be honest i have 3 of them. AT cases are for people that want more custom layouts but dont have a lot of money to spend on their cases or just dont want to spend that much on a case. BF cases are probably the best case you can get and the treys are the best you can get, but going BF is going to cost a lot of money so if you dont have that kind of money AT is what I would go with.

As far as what do I use right now well... I have 2 of the small GW cases and one of the large GW cases. My MC are all in a big plastic tub lined with foam from old treys that I had from GW that had been plucked to hell. So I am actually in the same boat right now looking for a new case(s), and I cant decide between AT and BF and I am leaning toward AT just because of price. (7000 pts half MCs)

whoadirty: They have custom cutouts on battlefoam for every GW model, Forgeworld model, and most of the other table top games too like Warmachine. You just have to go to the custom trey creator and use the drop down menus and place the outlines on the trey form then they cut it. You just have to make sure you know if a model is going to be laying down or standing and then how tall that model is in that position, add about half an inch and you got the thickness you need.

The only problem with those custom cutouts is that custom models won't fit. If you've got conversions, then go for the pluck out trays.

I can also attest to Battlefoam being very good.

The cost-per-model stored in the custom cut trays is generally equal or better than Sabol. Conversions will fit if they are not significantly different in shape/size than the intended model for the space. You can also use some pluck trays, some custom cut. I believe they can even mix it up on same tray (half custom cut, half pluck).

I got fed up with cases.

It takes such a long time to move everything from your "in home" storage into you cases, and then each case ends up fitting so few models that you wind up needing to buy and lug around two or three cases for a bigger sized game (or any time you want to use a horde). There's also no synergy between 40K cases/foamcuts and WHFB cases/foamcuts, so you need to buy even more inserts if you play both systems.

Ultimately I just decided I would invest in some high quality storage boxes that I could use for "in home" storage, as well as model transport, and would fit any of my gaming systems. I went with the ones from www.reallyusefulproducts.co.uk/uk/. Generally speaking, I can easily fit a 1750 point army in two boxes (a deep one for the big dudes like Tervigons, Trygons, mycetic spores, etc. and a shallow one for infantry). A 2000+ point list might require a third box.

But for the OP's purposes, I honestly can't think of an efficient way to carry around such a huge amount of models. You're either going to be strapped down with 4+ cases, or carrying a teetering stack of boxes.
