This is a cheat sheet I have created for charging distances.

It shows the probabilities of reaching any given charge distance for all 4 different types of charge (no DT no fleet, no DT with fleet, DT no fleet, DT with Fleet). It also shows how many dice you should be rolling for fleet depending upon your initial roll. This is fairly straight forward in open ground, but not so in DT.

But I have made a slight change since then - there are a few times where it does not make any difference to the odds if you re-roll only 1 or 2 dice. Either link will lead you to the latest version.

I had a feeling and this proves me right, but assaulting through difficult with fleet is actually more successful than on normal terrain even if only by a tiny amount.

The reason i figured this was because fleet allows you to re roll any amount of dice meaning you can re roll a six if it's the highest.

Of course you are stilled reduced to I1 haha but if you really need that charge.

If you are looking at an almost guaranteed charge (90% or above) then the order is as follows:

Difficult Terrain Without Fleet - 3"
Open Terrain Without Fleet - 4"
Difficult Terrain With Fleet - 5"
Open Terrain With Fleet - 6"

Fleet in difficult terrain is better than open terrain without fleet and we have a 1" gap between each.

I also think it is worth looking at the 50/50 cut off point:

Difficult Terrain Without Fleet - 5"
Open Terrain Without Fleet - 7"
Difficult Terrain With Fleet - 8"
Open Terrain with Fleet - 9"

This seems like we've lost out a bit on our charge ranges, fleet in 5th used to be a guaranteed 7" charge in open terrain (now down to 6" - and that still has a chance to fail) and 9" was the 50/50 mark (approximately the same). However, I don't think the reroll to run that we have gained should be underestimated. This is going to make our fleet movement across the board much more consistent and is going to allow us to get into these nearly guaranteed ranges.

Also, if there is anything that cannot overwatch - have a pop at a long range charge! Vehicles without occupants, assault only units and even small units that have little overwatch capability. You may get that 11 or 12 and if there is no or very little penalty then give it a go.

I came across this in a little skirmish game, my opponent generally had 5 man marine squads, that's 9 bolter shots, average 1.5 hits, average 0.75 wounds, average 0.5 unsaved wounds on a 5+. Overwatch is not that scary!
