My problem with this is that I find it ridiculous that one model can absorb all the damage for an entire squad.
And we will need to deal with them regardless of what army we play.
This would be different if I had some characters of my own to call challenges, but sadly I can't take a Broodlord for Ymgarls.
Having a Librarian on one side, and Corbolo on the other means that Corbolo can indeed take all the hits, even from two of my units assaulting his, from opposing sides. He can allocate all hits from one side to the librarian and then use LOS to shift them to Corbolo on the other side, then use 3+/2+ out the wazzoo.
that does blow a hole in the entire 'position them better' line of thought.
That scenario, I expected to be hard going, but as I was going first, with 10 Ymgarls, (5th ed would have seen them VERY Beaten up if not gone)
You would have gotten 9 wounds and 4 rends. So killed 1 or 2 terminators.
In 6th, you should have gotten 1 wound on Corbulo.
The averages work out pretty darn close.
And I want to touch on what someone said earlier...
The problem you are having isn't with wound allocation, as much as it is the change in FnP. If rends still negated FnP, this would have gone much better for you. You hit that unit with a couple of Tervifexes at S10, and this is a very different conversation.
Charging the unit with 2 or more units that can challenge would be good. Unfortunately that's not going to come up very often, especially now that standard stealers are rubbish, and therefore I won't have my beloved Broodlords.
Two things here.
One, Blord commando units may still be worthwhile. Character hunting, Psy powers, etc. Not sure they will, but they might.
Two. I do think you made a mistake here. This is not only a 600pt deathstar, it is one built around resiliency. Hitting this with anything less than multiple units *is* a error. Either throw 50pts of guants to keep it immobolized, or throw 4-800pts of destruction at it to win.
5th ed saw me make it into the top 10 in NZ, top ranked Tyranid player in NZ, and ranked as the 7th best Nid player in the world. I'll never shelve them completely but F - IT!!! I really hate having to do so much with a list to make it competitive again. And at this point I have no idea how I'm going to do it and keep it balanced for Tournament play.
Wow.. I didn't know that. Way cool. Congrats.
I don't think it will take too much to adapt to 6th, there are just some pitfalls.. we just need to discover all of them. (oh, and get skyfire...)
