shooting weapons and twin-linked questions

i didnt know what to title this thread but i had some questions on shooting weapons; mainly twin-linked with how they read in the codex.

ill give some background on why this question came up in my head.

i saw a dakkafex being used in a batrep. the person model 4 devs on the fex. so when i look up the codex i see brainleech TL devs - 6 assualts.

this brought up a few questions to me. first MC can only fire 2 weapons in a shooting phase. is a TL dev 1 weapon or 2? can you just have 1 TL dev and still re-roll failed to-hits?

twin-linked makes me think there are 2 guns linked together, so im assuming he had a pair of TL devs = 4 guns. but doesnt this give one fex 24 shots? or is this 4 guns but the 6 assualts for a TL dev already includes all the shots you get; 3 assualts per dev?

the other question is in the codex says "Replace any set of ST with TL dev 15 pts per model" so does that mean i can replace both sets?

the guns come twin linked and are represented on the mini by taking up both arm sockets. The player used 2 twin linked devourers useing up all 4 arm slots giving the carni a total of 12 twin linked shots.

Model wise, One dev is 6 shots. Two are 6 TL shots. 4 are 12 TL shots. So yes, on TL devourer is modeled as two guns. A carnifex may replace both pairs of ST (all four arms) for a TL devourer per pair. Since a TL dev is two guns, it's like one talon per gun.

Rules wise: A TL weapon is one gun. It may be modeled as one, two or ten, but firing it is only firing a single weapon. So a carnifex can shoot 2 TL devs for 12 TL shots.

i guess i'm wondering how effective a brood of 3 fex with dual TL devs would be in shooting? to me it seems like a more accuarte stronger ork =P

Did you just compare a fex to an ork? You mean an ork, only more than twice as strong, 1.5 times as tough, twice as effective armor, and quadruple the amount of wounds?

Then yes, a fex is an ork.....just better at shooting :-P

Yes, a 3x brood of Fexen with TLD/TLD can be effective. No, Orks have no analogous unit. Add a prime for wound allocation shenanigans (I love that word), or pod in single a singe TLD/TLD fex for some sweet rear armor shots. Against AV 10, you are almost sure to glance a 3HP vehicle to death, especially if the pod can contribute a little.

I would probably stick with 2 devilfexes, and attach a prime for wound games.


Part of the modeling I think comes from the older codex where the rule was if Nids took two of the same gun, it was treated as a single twin-linked gun.
