All of his vehicles had night shields, oh my, what a nightmare for nids.
Our mission and deployment I must say, is the worst possible case for tyranids. Hammer and anvil, and the emperor's will. I was going 2nd.
He deployed about 18" back from the center line. I started with my two units of gaunts up front on my line. Hive guard right behind them. Zoeys to the left, covered by a massive tree. My tervigons were kind of centrally located in my deployment zone. The trygon was up front, attempting to get cover from another giant tree. I started my hive tyrant on the table, completely out of LOS of the enemy.
Dark eldar turn 1
They moved around and tried to take shots at my hive guard. The wyches and warriors got much closer than I anticipated. Between rolling terrible and making saves, he killed one. I also lost a zoanthrope, and 3 gaunts. I practically did a cartwheel knowing he wouldn't get first blood.
Tyranid turn 1
I spawned gaunts, and sent them to my objective near my table edge. One tervigon spawned out . Everything moved forward, doing endurances on the HT and the hive guards. My HT swooped 24" and it put me within 12" of his wych raider. Between all of my shooting, I barely knocked off the hull points on the raider, and earned first blood. Everything else ran forward.
Dark eldar turn 2
The wyches were prepping to charge the zoanthropes. A haemonculus positioned himself in terrain to use his liquefier on my gaunts. His other units simply moved a little bit to keep their jink saves. With all of his shooting, he grounded the tyrant and wounded it. Killed off another zoanthrope and hive guard. Mowed down a unit of gaunts. The wyches failed to charge the zoanthrope.
Tyranid turn 2
I kept on trucking forward. The hive guard got lucky and exploded the warrior's raider, killing 4 inside. The HT swooped 24" again and killed a dark lance ravager, the explosion killing 2 more warriors. I enfeebled the wyches and tried a cluster spine on them but it drifted into the warriors, killing them down to 3 guys, that were also pinned. My zoanthrope whiffed his attack, and the tervigon failed to charge the wyches. I gained a wound back on my HT with 'it will not die'
Dark eldar turn 3
With my Hive Tyrant now on his side of the table, next to all his neat pirate ships, he pretty much emptied everything into the hive tyrant. Did not wound him, or ground him. He was planning on assaulting with incubi+Drazzy if I was grounded. After failing another charge from the wyches with terrible rolling, he conceded.
He was under the impression that with 3 more turns of the Hive Tyrant doing its thing, that I would kill the rest of his ravagers, and he didn't have another way to ground me. Within 2 turns, I would have had a tervigon, trygon and around 20 gaunts near his objective. I think I would have won pretty easily, but I do wish he had continued, because luck can really swing sometimes, and keep you in the game, at least trying for a draw.
I think his biggest mistakes were bringing anything within shooting range of me for the first couple turns. That incubi+drazzy squad was really expensive too, for a mere 1500 point game.
