new to Nids/40k and have questions/clarifications

1) why does it seem like no one uses raveners? they seem to be wariors with better movement.

2) i cant see any downside to Feed. is there suppose to be one that i'm not seeing?

3) with the clarification to poinsoned; why would you take AG over TS? or together for that matter.

4) how do you use mycetic spores and reserves to be useful. i just feel with not being able to attack and having to run for cover kind of defeats the purpose of the two.

1) They are not synapse and they can't take TS/AG. The incressed movement to 12" and ignore cover means they will be hitting the table more in 6th.

2) There used to be one. Now not so much. The only downside is you can not shoot.

3) It lets S3 Glance AV10.

4) You can place distraction units behind enmey lines. Also you can still shoot and hit rear armor or get around cover saves.

1) so with my understanding of 6th and not really any pre-6th exp using some does make some sense then?

2) ok so for Nids that dont have shooting weapons its really just a plus for them then?

3) so this is really only improntant for gaunts vs vehicles?

4) thanks, anyone else got more tatics?

1) Yes.

2) Other than they don't have fearless and have to take morale checks like everyone else with a low Ld? No.

3) That or if you give them both TS and AG you get to reroll wounds against T4 (so most marines).

4) Send in cheap units first to suck up overwatch and engage units in cover and makes sure they are big enough to last a full 2 assualt phases. The next turn send in the more expensive/small/fragile units as they will not be able to be Overwatched or take the I1 penelty for assualting into cover.

1. They're comparatively expensive models, and were difficult to use well in 5th edition with a lack of Synapse and Shadow in the Warp, and an inability to climb two the second stories of buildings and ruins. They also have more attacks than Warriors.

2. Units succumbing to Feed cannot shoot. This is a big deal for gunboats like Carnifexen with Brainworm Devourers.

3. Glancing RAV10 vehicles, and a 4+ to wound T4. Also relevant to increasing the number of hull points you can scrape off a vehicle: S5 Genestealers can glance Land Raiders, and S5 Warriors are much more likely to wreck a Rhino. I prefer Adrenal Glands because they're good against vehicles and non-vehicles, whereas Toxin Sacs are better against non-vehicles, but useless against vehicles. The combination is expensive, and you're usually better off with more models for the cost in points. Handy for filling up points with fewer models though, if you're starting out.

4. Use them to transport units that can shoot, and then use their Transport Spore rule to enable them to shoot at the weak armour on vehicle targets, or to invoke the Trapped! rule on units falling back from your frontal assault. Additionally, two Mycetic Spores full of Hormagaunts can surround a transport unit by running so that the Mycetic spore can wreck it using Ripper Tentacles (and maybe some other gun) and kill all the passengers because they can't deploy within 1" of the Hormagaunts or move within 1" of them.

for number 3. the T4 wounds would only be for the charge right? after that they lose the S1 right? i do see the use though. i dont have alot of Nids yet as the battleforce has been keeping busy putting dinosaurs (thats what my daughter calls them) togther.

Yes only for the charge, but that can be a big help, all those dead marines can't hit back...

OTOH, it is good to keep in mind. Raging TS/AG HGaunts get 4 attacks, wound on 4+ with a reroll.
Second phase, they get 2 attacks, wound on 4+ with no reroll.... so about 33% as effective.

to the initial question of number 2, there i the lack of fearless. and guns do still exist.

5th edition rage meant they would mindlessly chase everything that moved. now they just get a buff

True, there are no downsides to Rage, there is a small downside to failing the IB-Feed test, and there are other downsides to not being in Synapse.

well im also thinking about the feed sytergy with raveners. as i would take them for pruely CC and i would want rage in that case and i would have no guns.

what are the down sides to not being fearless besides the obvious i can be feared from units with the fear rule and i could be forced to run if i lose combat resolution (which would just get me back to synapse in one move most likely).

You also have to take Morale Checks from shooting. Unless you're pulling tricks with Dominion, that means you need to leave them outside of Synapse for your Opponent's Shooting Phase, and it doesn't take a whole lot of shooting to force a Morale Test on Raveners.
